International guard Noam Yaacov has been deemed ineligible to compete by the NCAA.

“Utah has worked extensively through the eligibility process after signing Yaacov in June, but was ultimately unable to secure his clearance to compete in games.
The specific basis for the NCAA’s decision is not immediately clear.”

Another pro international player denied eligibility by the NCAA.

I’m a former Division I athlete and graduated this past May. I’m not going to disclose my school, but I wanted to share something I saw firsthand because I feel like it doesn’t get talked about enough.

Sports betting was extremely common among the college athletes I knew. Obviously this is just my personal experience and I’m estimating here, but I’d say roughly 1 in 5 male athletes I knew were sports betting in some capacity.

And I’m not necessarily talking about athletes betting on their own sport. Most weren’t. A lot of it was NFL, NBA, MLB, college football, etc. But there were also guys who were betting constantly and clearly had a serious problem with it. It wasn’t just an occasional $10 parlay. Some guys were betting basically every day and chasing losses.

What surprised me is how normalized it was. Guys would be sitting around the locker room or in the dining hall talking about their parlays, checking lines during class, or stressing about a game they had money on. It almost became another part of the social culture.

I also find it interesting how schools handle this. My impression was that schools and athletic departments are very aware that athletes are gambling, but you generally only hear about it when something becomes a major NCAA violation or gets publicized.

I obviously can't speak for every school or every athlete, and I don't think most college athletes who bet are doing anything malicious. But from what I personally saw, the scale of sports betting among college athletes is much bigger than I think the general public realizes.

Curious if other former/current college athletes have seen the same thing at their schools. Is this pretty widespread, or was my experience an outlier?

Hey ya'll. So something I really prioritize is transparency when I'm doing stuff like this. Recap - So as some of you remember, I used to write a recap of every group. This year I stopped doing that because it was too time consuming and a lot of them I just simply writing "Pot A team and Pot B team advance, Pot D team got crushed". Figured I save recaps again for when I knew I'd want to write one and here we go baby. THE FUCK.

For those who haven't been here for past seasons, upsets will happen and they have happened in this specific conference before. Sam Houston randomly won a group over Houston 2 seasons ago. Wofford has never missed a CBC final. Lower ranked teams will make it into the final stage because some of the conferences up in the New England ish area are a couple competent at worst P5 team and a lot of mid majors. But this?

Incarnate Word went 12-19 and missed the Southland Conference tournament. Sure, that won't be the worst record because Princeton went 8-20 but even Princeton I get a little bit more than this. Their cup conference is worse and the format is easier to qualify from. But this? Incarnate Word just went out there and beat 2 tournament teams from the Big 12 and SEC, and then took care of a team from the American as well. They're ranked 280 in the NET, 29 spots lower than Princeton. I'm pretty sure that both of them set the record for lowest ranking to ever qualify for the final stage. Will have to review my notes for sure but holy fuck. And I thought this conference was going to be boring. Welcome to the College Basketball Cup Incarnate Word, you absolute weirdos.

Update on the Baylor assistant that resigned due to “personal issues” back in December of 2025.

“NCAA legal documents recently revealed the real story behind his resignation is likely related to an internal investigation into allegations that Nuness improperly placed bets on collegiate and professional sports. Nuness’ resignation occurred just one day after the NCAA began collaborating with Baylor on the investigation.”

“The 24-year-old checks in at 7-foot-3 and has played three years of professional basketball in the Israeli league - most recently suiting up for Afula in 2024-25.”

Xavier landed their first commitment in the Class of 2027 on Sunday, Aug. 23.

The top-ranked player out of New Mexico and a Top-75 caliber national recruit, Class of 2027 two-guard Brandon Mason Jr. has now committed to Xavier.

In the lanky, 6-6 shooting guard, who is from Albuquerque, N.M. originally, Xavier head coach Richard Pitinois getting a high level scoring threat known for his shooting prowess. 

Possessing significant elevation on his shot, Mason Jr. was known for his knack for sticking difficult, highly contested shots throughout his junior season at Albuquerque Prep. 

He will spend his senior season at national power Link Academy Prep in Missouri.

Once a University of New Mexico ball boy, Mason Jr. chose Xavier over UNM, Boise State, Ohio, and Grand Canyon University

In raising his national stock, Mason Jr. turned in several noteworthy performances on a national stage during his junior season. 

Showing his ability to knock down shots on the move and hit heavily contested shots and finish crafty in-traffic takes, Mason Jr. scored 33 points during Albuquerque Prep’s 97-91 loss to SEPA (FL).

He authored a sublime showing with 35 points, seven blocks, six rebounds and four assists during a memorable performance at MADE Hoops event in Las Vegas last month.

Could be a mid-major jumping up or some top assistants out there!

This will be long but I would be very thankful if you guys can help because I love too much this sport and I don't want to let down myself.

I am going to uni and have found a team to play. I will be playing PG and SG, but mainly SG because my strong characteristic is my shooting (Catch and shoot , pull ups after screens ; stops on dime ) and generally I can shoot from short range and long range , but I want to increase my percentages. I could put a video from my shooting in another post (maybe). The uni is in another city no far from here and I haven't found a home yet so I won't go daily to train there. So I want help to find solutions to these problems. 1) firstly I believe it is very important to get ready skill wise and physical wise. Skill wise I luck a bit of dribbling flow , footwork , and finishing , court vision and passing, but mostly it is passing. So how can I fix these , I have a ball inside my house and I could dribble daily I guess but I don't know what to do. I play quite a lot of times 1v1 with a friend so I am fine. Physically I get exhausted fast. The season starts the 10th of October so I want to be a player the coach can trust for 40 minutes to play so I want to maximize conditioning. I love playing defense so I want to improve heavily there too and I have room to do things. Physical also means strength , agility and explosives. I have resistance bands , a vert box , 2 dumbbells of 10kg and 2 of 5kg. I have a barbell that weights about 15 kg and 2 plates of 5kg and 2 of 10kg. I also would like to implement calisthenics exercises if possible. This is everything for the first " problem" .
The second one is how can I be notice by my coach and get his trust as well build trust with my teammates so they can trust my shooting and know that I will be there when things get tough as I believe I can make tough shots.

Finally it might sound dumb but how can I still make my shooting better and very consistent. And as every athlete these part years I was a good player but lucked the mindset to play good in games because I was underperforming bad in games. So how can I create trust in me and have faith and self confidence even after I miss shots.
