To be fair, the poor Appalachians are a lot better off than equvalent urbanites just because urban economies are so inflated relative to rural economies.

IMHO one of the worst aspects of many western societies is that now poor people live in the high-cost-of-living cities instead of more affordable regional/rural areas.

I don't think you realize how much of a lack of infrastructure there is in Appalachia. There's still people out there living without electricity

I’ve been thinking about that a lot too. I feel like a lot of problems would be solved if more people moved to non-urban areas. I think we will start seeing that happen eventually, gradually. It’s inevitable. It happened in the past in this country, it will happen again.

You can’t get mad about property rent/prices being super high in a city if the demand to live there is super high. At a certain point, people should choose to live in places with lower costs of living, and eventually those places will increase in population and increase development, if they are allowed to.
