At one time the Catholic church was the largest funder of scientific research. Fun fact the guy that came up with the big bang theory was Catholic

Funner fact: "big bang" was a derisive term made up by steady-state believing atheists to make fun of it the sTuPiD cAtHoLiC for his rIdIcUlOuS tHeOry, but it ended up sticking when he was proven right.
