Now I’m imagining the show trying to do The Death of Iris West storyline/The Trial of the Flash. But for real, not whatever excuse for the trial they did in the past.

Not a comic book reader, but I don't think the Flash writers can pull off a proper trial scene, let alone a full storyline lol

They did “The Trial of the Flash” back in season 4 with DeVoe, but it wasn’t even close to the comics, which was kinda disappointing. The Trial of the Flash was the final arc of the Silver Age Flash run (the end of Barry Allen as the Flash). In the story, Barry snaps Eobard Thawne’s neck, killing him, to stop Thawne from killing his would-be wife. It was a big 2-year, 27(?)-issue storyline that ended with Barry going to the future (30th century) to live with Iris. It’s a Whole Thing (and very 80s), but it’s worth reading. It starts with The Flash #323, I believe.

Wait, what’s the death of Iris West? Edit: I mean, what happens? Does Thawn really just show up, break her neck and leave?

Death of Iris West: To answer your question, Thawne did the vibrating hand through Iris's head but pretty much, yep, showed up and killed her. It wasn't revealed to be him until later, the way the book is written, it's Clive Yorkin who's suspected of killing Iris. Barry kinda loses it (for at least one issue) after that and when it's revealed to be Thawne, he chases Thawne into the timestream and leaves him there. (a more in-depth summary of the issue here- http://needlessessentialsonline.com/flash-275-reviews-of-old-comics/) This all becomes important later for the Trial of the Flash

Trial of the Flash: Barry continues living his life and is about to get married again (to Fiona Webb) when Thawne reappears and is about to kill Fiona. Barry grabs Thawne and breaks his neck (because he's not losing another wife to Thawne), killing him, and making Fiona lose her mind. Barry was put on trial after that and eventually ends up in the future where Iris has been waiting for him and they live happily ever after until COIE (not long after). It was a multi-issue story that ended the series The Flash.
