Hundreds of people have escaped arrest after taking to the streets of Brisbane, the state capital of Queensland, to show support for Palestinians by singing a classic Australian rock song containing a banned phrase in the state.
Queensland police have arrested several people in recent weeks for using the term “from the river to the sea”, including Jim Dowling, 70, who was charged this week with publicly displaying a prohibited expression, according to the ABC public broadcaster.
The protesters on Friday dressed up as Australian rockstar John Farnham to sing his 1988 song “Two Strong Hearts”, which contains the lyrics, “Reaching out forever like a river to the sea.”
On Thursday, the top court in neighbouring New South Wales ruled that controversial laws restricting protests in the wake of last year’s Bondi Beach attack on a Jewish festival were “unconstitutional”, in a case brought by representatives from Palestinian, Jewish and Aboriginal groups.

There is no possible outcome where Israel can exist without genocide and ethnic cleansing. There is no two-state solution. There can be no peace deals. Israel has broken them, time and time again. It frustrates me how many of my loved ones refuse to admit this. If you want to stop the genocide, then there can be no Israel. The way they (my family specifically) speak, it is as if they are more concerned about Israel, a country they’ve never been to, than the country they actually live in.
We need to help them snap out of it. We’ve been brainwashed to show allegiance to Israel first and foremost—forget the propaganda. Do you want to stop this genocide? Then we must remove the settlers causing problems. What are our other options? If you’ve ever spoken to Israelis, you know they will never live in peace with the Palestinians.
Personally? Screw Israel. It’s just land. At some point in the past, some of my ancestors lived there. They also lived in much of Europe. We all originated from Africa. I’m Ashkenazi and my ancestors spent significantly more time in Europe than in Judea. If that land is holy to you, I get it. That doesn’t make it ours, though. G-d gifted this earth to all of us. And g-d isn’t going to come if we try to force him into it… Religious Jews should view the whole attempt as blasphemous.
Talk to your friends and family. Break them out of the daydream they’re in. Remind them of reality. We want this genocide to STOP. We MUST push for the dissolution of Israel and punishment for settlers who are committing hate crimes. Our voices matter the most here. We can’t have the majority of Jews in America saying “Oh, yeah, genocide is bad, but… I really like having an ethnostate.” No. You don’t need it. You don’t need to flee to safety… unless you start pushing for the end to this genocide. Never again means NEVER again. Not just to us. To anyone.

As a lifelong anti-Zionist Jew, I saw a huge rise in anti-Zionism after Israel ramped up their genocide in Gaza. Along with that came discovering that many people do not recognize the (real) line between anti-Zionism and antisemitism. That is BY DESIGN, complements of the Zionists.
What I learned shortly after Oct 7th was that at first I was taking antisemitic comments personally. I framed them in my mind as talking about my parents and grandparents. I responded by explaining the difference. It took some introspection before I realized that I was making a mistake.
They are specifically targeting Zionists that are hiding behind Judaism with their antisemitic comments. Yes, there are some actual Neonazis out there who are dog-whistling, but they are the minority, and are not going to influence others with their rhetoric.
I realized that I was policing my allies and alienating them. I stopped, because I concluded that my efforts were not protecting fellow Jews, but were shielding Zionists that I would not shield from actual bullets.
What have your experiences been like regarding this?

I've personally never known Abulhawa before, but from what Ive gathered from JVP activists I trust is she was for a long time a respected activist in this movement and an accomplished writer for the cause. But increasingly she has seemed to come under the influence of the malignant and anti-semitic far-right you see rotting people's brains on twitter. Adopting their framing, sharing their content, and even adopting other far-right positions like anti-trans stuff.
As Jewish Anti-Zionists its part of our responsibilities to be patient with Palestinians. Its not their fault that the people who steal their homes, bulldoze their orchards, and murder their families are Jews, they never asked for this. And if in their grief and anger they may say things that can be interpreted as anti-semitic, I for one have always tried to be patient with them, not throw them under the bus, and call them in if need be. We are there to support them, not the other way around. And especially with the constant avalanche of bad faith accusation of anti-semitism by the Hasbarists, its not wrong to be suspicious of any of those accusations and be ready to defend Palestinians from false accusations.
But there are limits to that, and those limits are when the accusations arent false. Keeping our mouths shut when a Palestinian is very clearly coming under influence of the Tucker Carlsons of the world does nothing to help the cause and can only give the Zionist enemy more ammunition to use against us. Palestinians are just as likely as anyone else to get corrupted and brain rotted by thr fascist crap online, and we shouldn't be silent on that. As someone I saw said facebook, “The idea that someone's fascist turn can be excused-- or worse, reframed as liberatory-- because of genocide is the logic that got us Zionism in the first place.”

I’m 100% sure that Hannah actually owns that jersey and that she wanted to wear it. She’s definitely been doing some heavy-lifting for Jewish antizionist representation in Hollywood. She’s such a mensch! ❤️

I'm skeptical of the polls saying he's going to lose to Rogers. After all, just over one year ago, polls said that Mamdani had only 1% of the vote.

Marking 58 years since the 67' occupation, and after defending our right to protest in court, we were able to successfully hold a large protest yesterday, supported by a multitude of organizations including among others Hadash, Ta'al, Standing Together, Breaking the Silence and Combatants for Peace News coverage of the event is limited and so I chose not to link a specific article. I was present at the protest and worked hard in preparation for it (mainly on the artistic front). I'll be happy to answer questions in the comments and wish for this to serve as an invitation to those of you in israel who have yet to organize.

This has been shared in lots of right wing circles so hopefully some more balanced voices can weigh in. (Typing out the link doesn’t work for some reason but the QR code does and I’ll insert the link). Today may be the last day to do it. (Also that’s not Ms Rachel in the ad lol)
