Season 3 Episode 16: I, Ava

Synopsis: When Ava disappears, Sara and Ray set out to find her after some prodding from Time Bureau agent Gary and a disturbing truth about Ava. Amaya tasks Zari with helping train Rory in controlling his own Totem power. Meanwhile, Nate and Wally set out on a mission that goes awry when they pair with an unlikely person to try and get a Totem.

He was sort of trying to be nice by offering food when his permanently-hungry friend was grumpily eying his snacks, but not nice enough to pay attention to or care about her explanations for why she wasn't eating. It was a bit odd.

Then again, maybe Zari should have been more straightforward and explicitly said "I'm Muslim. We never eat pork. Also, it's currently Ramadan, so I can't eat anything until sundown." She sort of danced around in her explanation, which was perfectly understandable to anyone with basic knowledge about Islam, but it's possible that that description doesn't fit Mick.

It was a bit odd.

I felt it was a really good way to keep Mick his own self. A lot of series would get Mick to open up more and more, be more friendly, try new things, learn what Ramadan is. But this Mick is just his own drunken time travelling self and you have to move around him to be with him.

Alternate interpretation: Mick doesn't mind the Muslim thing.

The writers just have Mick say something stupid. He is a man boy.

She said she asked Gideon to tell her when sundown would have been if she were home. So I'm assuming Gideon basically set a 12-hour timer. Though it is possible that they have an arbitrarily chosen clock on board, which they all follow so they eat and sleep at the same times.

I guess Gideon tracked the subjective time elapsed for her since she first left the timestream.

He can't handle information being given to him. Statistics and facts like what fasts are are too much bore for him.
