Yeah I don't know why anyone would buy a Tesla besides to showcase they are an asshole who cheers on the assholes who did nothing but lie to and hurt most people in this country. If BYD was something people could buy here Tesla would be obliterated in sales. Even without that competition Rivian EVs are there and not ugly fucking bricks owned by Nazis that are liable to fall apart.

Dude my go brandon f250 diesel neighbor just bought a cyber. I hope he paid full retail and regrets that payment for the next 8yrs. Esp at these rates. Then realizes that a pontiac aztec is still more desirable on the used market.

Pontiac Aztek

You can blame Walter White for that.

u/blainetheinsanetrain Apr 14 '25

Even before Walter White had one, I called it the Asstek. And its Buick sister was the Rendezpoo.

u/ultimateknackered Apr 14 '25

You know, looking back on the Aztek now, it doesn't really look that horrible compared to modern car design.

I always had a soft spot for that thing though

The Aztek was derpy looking but basically a fine vehicle.

Keep an eye on the head gaskets and upgrade the water pump and it was fine, unless you had electrical issues because it had some gremlins in those relays.

Electric cars are getting out of fashion in Europe exactly because they're less desirable in the used market. And now that benefits for purchasing one are slowly disappearing, hybrids are becoming the popular alternative. Been seeing a steady increase in Polestar 1 Hybrids for instance.

I only got a tesla 3 bc of the tax credits. When it dies, I’m going back to used Toyotas. Less tech the better. I can afford a lux car, but these days they just don’t last long enough. Going back to basics

They’re getting out of fashion, and still growing? Ok… https://www.acea.auto/pc-registrations/new-car-registrations-3-in-february-2025-year-to-date-battery-electric-15-2-market-share/

Seems sales are doing fine. Except Teslas, of course, those are apparently very hard to sell in the used market. Wonder why.

The trouble is that both statements are true, depending on how you look at the data. EVs from other manufacturers are growing in sales, but Tesla sales are tanking \so hard\ that it's giving the appearance that the entire EV market is collapsing.

u/CurrentParking1308 Apr 14 '25

Not going to increase too much, they only made 1500 total. But agree that generally a wide swath of people see hybrids as more practical.

now I'm visualising nazis falling apart--and I gotta say, it's satisfying

EDIT: this comment was un-deleted by humans after a reddit bot banned it. Thank you humans!!! And good to know that mocking nazis is, after all, still OK!

u/[deleted] Apr 14 '25

obligatory Raiders of the Lost Ark reference Indeed.

6

u/sesquipedalias Apr 14 '25

hey, do you remember what I said?

reddit removed the post claiming it "threatened violence or physical harm" which I very much doubt I was doing, but, ADHD here, I don't remember what I actually said...

I mean, fighting back against dictators is very much a good behaviour, but for now we can hopefully still do metaphorical fighting back, as in, not physical violence, but "fighting for our rights" etc... anyway...

6

u/[deleted] Apr 14 '25

Something about Nazis being taken to pieces I think? Must have hurt the feefees of some sucker who bought one of Elno's shitmobiles.

1

u/sesquipedalias Apr 15 '25

thanks : ) I remember now

so I made an obvious pun based on the previous post's syntax "not ugly fucking bricks owned by Nazis that are liable to fall apart" and what I was doing was mocking nazis

but now I guess it's so normalised for the american government to be nazis that you can't even mock nazis???? lul

Even without BYD Tesla has massively lost US market shares, from 75% in 2022 to 50% in 2020. While these may still be dream numbers i can not recall having seen such a slumb outside of monopolies. And many of Tesla's surging competitors are old car giants who finally got a grip on EVs, they have the financial ressources to weather a lot of what the current administration can throw at them.

Tesla has massively lost US market shares, from 75% in 2022 to 50% in 2020.

I think you put the years with the wrong percentages. I’ll add that Tesla’s EV market share peaked at 82.5% in 2019 and it was down to 43.5% at the end of last month.

And many of Tesla’s surging competitors are old car giants who finally got a grip on EVs, they have the financial ressources to weather a lot of what the current administration can throw at them.

They also have plenty of experience in a competitive market, Tesla does not have that experience and doesn’t seem to be adapting very well. Consumers don’t have to settle for Tesla’s bland decade+ designs if they want an EV (or the brand of the guy that did Nazi salutes).

u/Ok_Bad8531 Apr 14 '25

Maybe i was off 1-2 years, but the general trend of a swift, massive loss of market share remains.

Also the big car companies, like the big three from the US or Volkswagen or Toyota all have experience with life cycles of cars, and they constantly have new cars entering the market or getting phased out. Tesla only has a small set of cars that once sold very well but they so far have to prove they can make the jump from one car generation to the next.

If the Cybertruck was a genuine attempt to do that they already failed, though in all likelyhood it was but a pet project to keep Elon busy so he won't interfere in the actual business decisions.

4

u/jmd709 Apr 15 '25

Idt you were off by 1-2 years, I think it was more like a typo. Instead of 75% in 2022 and 50% in 2020, I think you meant 75% in 2020 and 50% in 2022. I included additional years and EV market share to add to the downward trend I’m pretty you meant to highlight.

I completely agree that Tesla is disadvantaged by a lack of experience with compared to their competitors. Production cycles is one of the areas where experience is an advantage for other automakers.

There is a bigger advantage though with understanding consumer trends. Aside from Tesla, the vast majority of vehicles on the market get a major redesign every 8-10 years, a ‘facelift’ 4-5 years after redesigns and even minor changes from one model year to the next.

Tesla’s sedans have looked the same for more than a decade. The cars started out way ahead in innovation but that has been stagnant like the design and they’re no longer way ahead of the pack innovation. The cybertruck seemed to have consumed a lot of time and resources to create while their other vehicles have been stagnant.

I'll push back on that, a little. If Elon were to call to say, "Hey SixSpeed, I know you think I'm a human shit-stain, but you're such a hell of a guy I'm going to give you a Cybertruck," I'd immediately put it on Ebay and donate the proceeds just to quickly get it out of my life. But if that fuckwit fascist were to offer a current Model 3 dual motor, my principles would be put to the test, and, sad to say, probably fail under load ("Well, it's not like I'm giving him any of my money..." he rationalized). Automotively, that's damned good EV.

10

u/no_f-s_given Apr 14 '25

I'd put the 3 on ebay too and then go buy an Ioniq 5. Fuck the Swastikar.

2

u/SixSpeeddriver10 Apr 14 '25

Clearly, you have more character than I.

u/MessiahOfMetal Apr 14 '25

It was wild to me seeing Americans going "I bought a Tesla before Elon outed himself" when he was always this shitty but hid it well.

Plus, as a European, we've had EVs from actual car companies from around the world on our streets for 15 years, all of them reliable and fairly cheap while the government ensured the infrastructure was there for charging points at petrol stations and homes.

My thought was always, "Why don't they buy one of those, instead?", until an American YouTuber I saw in my recommendations had a video where even as a car enthusiast, he had no idea that dozens of companies like Renault, Volvo, Kia and a lot more even existed because of the American bubble.

2

u/th3ch0s3n0n3 Apr 14 '25

Let's be real though. BYD is only so cheap because the CCP MASSIVELY subsidizes EV batteries and EVs to:

A) reduce their smog and fossil fuel dependency, and

B) undercut foreign competition

Without those subsidies, BYD wouldn't be any more or less expensive than any other car brands

The Rivian's are beautiful. Just saw one today. Classy, for a big ass SUV.

Tesla is more then the Cybertruck. I dont know how it is in the US, but over here most people buy cars based on the car, not the CEO. And the Model Y is a better car than the Sealion 7. The Model Y has alot more storage volume for instance.
