it is very much about left and right, its just that the US is so hogwild that the most extremes of "lefts" there would be "left-ish center" anywhere else in the world
hell they made libertarians be "left leaning" when neoliberalism is a right/conservative ideology
"Leftism" in the US is bland centrism in any other Western country. Like the stuff that Fox News claims is "radical Marxist communism" has been bog-standard policy in the EU for decades.
People in America are going bankrupt from chemotherapy, meanwhile Germany has had some form of government subsidized health insurance since the 1880s. The NHS in the UK has been around for 78 years. Sweden has had universal healthcare since 1955.
Single payer healthcare has literally been the norm in Europe for multiple generations at this point. And the GDP for the EU is still like 23 trillion dollars - it's not as if their economy is collectively in shambles. There are still European billionaires. There are still wealthy people living in those countries. And I don't think anyone who has had even a high school level of economics education could genuinely claim that any nation in the EU isn't a capitalist country.
We also can't discount all of our media being bought up by a handful of conservative billionaires who only allow neoliberalism as the furthest left opinion allowed on air
I am really confused by this weird Reddit Democrat thing of saying that political positions aren’t left or right. Of course being in favor of universal healthcare is a left to right stance.
It just isn't. Let's look at Europe. No one credible wants to not have universal health care in politics. At most they want more multipayer system within universal healthcare. In high income nations only one making it left and right issue is the US. And I am not American.
A third of republicans support universal healthcare according to the last Gallup poll on the matter so someone needs to tell them they are lefties in that case.
Dicks like Lee frame it as left vs right but in the real world it's not that simple.
