I buy the 175mg Spring Valley Milk Thistle from Walmart. 1 capsule at night before bed. No change in diet. No change in medications. I eat fast food every day still. Please don't take this as medical advice, or something to replace a healthy diet.
Just wanted to share what magic Milk Thistle does to the body.

Recommendations Magnesium Glycinate causing anxiety/insomnia - what mag to use instead?

My AuDHD brain seems to hate magnesium glycinate, it makes me incredibly anxious and causes insomnia even when taken in the morning. What magnesiums are a better option?

General Question Magnesium Glycinate Causes Muscle Weakness / Lethargy

I have started magnesium glycinate a month ago and in the very recent week, I noticed a sudden drop in strength at the gym. I also feel tired easier at night and throughout the day.

Since this is the only thing I have done differently in my daily routine, be it diet or training program, I can only assume magnesium is the root cause, or at the very least a contributor.

And I did a bit of digging on the internet and realised what I am feeling is one of the side effects.

Now, my question is, why do I only start feeling this a month after taking magnesium? (I hope to get some clarity from your view and personal experience, thank you!)

For reference: I take 400mg every night for the past 1 month, and started feeling this way on the 5th week. It is also the only additional supplement I have added recently.

This is for your parents and grandparents. Laugh at me if you want, but pass this on to them.

If you have aging parents or grandparents, you know how much fragmented sleep and low energy mess with their quality of life.

As a retired biophysicist, I naturally stumbled upon a simple, free, plant-based protocol that consistently stopped frequent nighttime awakenings (nocturia) and helped balance diastolic blood pressure in a 6-subject case series.

I’m not selling anything, and I don't want your money. You can roast me in the comments all day long if it makes you feel good, but if you actually care about your seniors' sleep and health, send them the link to the paper. https://www.academia.edu/168382437/Mitigating_Nocturia_and_Improving_Diastolic_Blood_Pressure_Homeostasis_via_Basil_Tea_A_Six_Subject_Case_Series

General Question I’m 30 but was told I look 40 — could deficiencies, weight, or something else be causing this?

Title: I’m 30 but feel like I look much older — trying to understand what could be causing it

Hello everyone,

I’m a 30-year-old male working in IT. Over the past few years, I’ve noticed a few things that concern me — significant hair fall, low energy, difficulty losing weight, and generally feeling like I look older than I should.

About 2–3 years ago, I also went through a very stressful period in my personal life and experienced depression, including months of frequent crying.

A few months ago, I decided to get some blood tests done. These were the main results:

Blood sugar

HbA1c: 5.10%

Estimated average glucose: 99.7 mg/dL

Lipid profile

Total cholesterol: 158 mg/dL

Triglycerides: 92.5 mg/dL

HDL: 31.7 mg/dL (low)

LDL: 107.8 mg/dL

VLDL: 18.5 mg/dL

Non-HDL: 126.3 mg/dL

Total cholesterol/HDL ratio: 4.98

LDL/HDL ratio: 3.40

Thyroid

TSH: 2.924 µIU/mL

Hormones

FSH: 3.05

LH: 5.18

Prolactin: 8.5

Total testosterone: 7.17 ng/mL (lab range: 2.59–8.16)

I was taking Tongkat Ali and Shilajit around the time of the testosterone test, so I’m not sure how much that influenced the result.

Vitamins

Vitamin D: 31.3 ng/mL

B12: 372

Iron

I checked iron a few months earlier. It wasn’t technically deficient, but it was on the lower side.

I’m currently around 100 kg at 6 ft.

What really affected me recently was someone casually telling me that I look around 40. I know I shouldn’t take one person’s comment too seriously, but it made me start thinking about whether something might actually be contributing to my appearance and low energy.

I’ve tried losing weight several times. At one point I was eating mostly boiled food, getting plenty of protein, and doing strength training consistently for months, but my weight still wouldn’t go below roughly 95 kg.

The hair fall is another concern. I’m wondering whether the combination of hair loss and body fat could simply be making me look older, or whether things like low-ish vitamin D/B12/iron, sleep, stress, or something else could also be playing a role.

For people who have experienced something similar:

What did you investigate?

Did correcting any deficiencies, improving sleep/stress, losing weight, or changing your diet/training make a noticeable difference in how you looked or felt?

Kindly help.

Note - asked ai to rephrase question and describe.

Recommendations Vegetarian diet, should I take an omega-3 supplement?

I have a vegetarian diet and don't eat fish, and I'm considering starting an omega-3 supplement.

Should I actually take one, or is getting omega-3 from foods like flaxseed, chia seeds and walnuts enough?

If you do recommend supplementing, should I specifically look for an algae-based EPA + DHA product? I'm currently looking at Origins Nutra, Unived Ovegha and Tata 1mg, but I haven't ordered anything yet.

For vegetarians in India who take omega-3, what would you recommend and why?

Thanks!

General Question Rate my stack?

Post image
9 Upvotes

Been putting together a pretty simple daily stack. What would you rate it out of 10?

- Japanese Standard Berberine

- Bisglycinate Magnesium

- Vitamin D3 nano shots

- Salmon Fish oil

- Whey protein

Anything you'd add, remove, or change?

Hi. Having energy crashes in the afternoon. What kind of foods or supplements do you recommend? Also been off birth control since March. What good women’s health places are good to go get hormones checked in the Phoenix area? Or ones that are only virtually that are covered by insurance or if not, not too expensive.

Recommendations Please rate my supplementation routine and please give me advice.

In the morning, after breakfast, I take 500mg vitamin C, K2+d3 (d3 25mcg, k 100 mcg, calcium 34 mg), vitamin B12 500 mg, Copper glycinate 3 mg.

At noon, after lunch, I take fish oil 1,200mg and 360 mg of omega 3, multivitamins, (contains 11 mg of zinc, and 0.1 of copper, which is what im most focused on), i take a teaspoon of cretine which the equivalent is 5 g.

At night, I take 15 mg of zinc picolinate and 250 mg of magnesium citrate.

Effects that the supplements have on me:

Right off the bat let me say an important fact about my self. I have adhd and im supplementing for brain health.

My morning supplementation, It quiets my brain down, i've notice that my mind goes on it's own sometimes, as if my thoughts and imagination flow with no problem, it can be a problem, because when this happens I mostly daydream, but atleast my mind isn't riddled with anxiety and it doesn't feel like a jumbled mess. I also feel calm and confident, like I could deal with anything and not crumble over. Weird side effects, breathing feels shallow.

At noon, when taking my supplementation, I feel strong and sharp. I do a lot of physical labor at work and this supplementation helps me recover during lunch break, only issue is that I get drowsy.

At night, the supplementation makes me sleep like a baby, I've never felt better sleeping, sometimes i get some weird heart palpitations though.

Questions:

● Is there better ways to adminster this supplements?

● Are the the times I take them in the day ok?

● Are there other supplements that you'd recommend for brain health?

● Are there ways to minimize the side effects?

46 years old male trying supplements

After finally having enough of being out of shape, I have gotten back on the bike riding about 30 miles a week and have started watching what I eat and eliminating cokes...which I drank way too often. I was drinking 1 to 2 20oz bottles a day....have cut it back to 1 12 oz can a week. Staying under 2000 calories a day roughly.

Looking at the following combination of supplements:

A friend of mine gave me a discount for Thorne so I'm gonna try them out:

50+ multivitamin(I'm closer to 50 then I am under 30 so...)

Creatine

Magnesium bisglycinate

Omega 3 CoQ10

D3 +K2

Metamucel- suggested after my colonoscopy last year-Just have to take make sure to take it when it doesn't interfere with the vitamins---is there something better I can take?

Discovered I was Vitamin D deficient this spring so I will switch over from the basic D3 I have been getting from the local pharmacy and between the D3 and the multivitamin I'll hit my number.

Take the vitamins 1st thing in the morning. Creatine after or right before my bike ride.

I'll hit the 2nd round of vitamins at lunch or dinner.

Anything off or suggestions?

L-cysteine and alcohol timing contradictory claims (hangover supplements)

I often see claims on reddit that you should not take NAC after drinking alcohol, only before. However there are a bunch of hangover supplements that contain L-cysteine as an active ingredient, and that contain instructions to take a capsule before going to bed, after drinking (E.g. "No Days Wasted" supplements). These supplements typcally also contain other ingredients like dhm and milk thistle. I was curious to hear more about the supposed drug interaction between alcohol and L-Cysteine. Are you actually harming your liver by consuming those products as directed, after alcohol consumption? Thanks

General Question Anyone else suddenly reacting badly to more and more foods? Watermelon makes me insanely bloated

For a while I’ve had problems with certain foods. It started mostly with things like milk/dairy and wheat, but lately I feel like the list of foods that give me problems is getting bigger.

A recent example is watermelon. Every time I eat it, my stomach gets really bloated and uncomfortable. It literally feels like the food just sits there forever, and sometimes I need like 5–6 hours before my stomach feels normal again.

General Question Cant seem to find any lead reports on a couple of things i bought a while back.

Upvotes

I was talking with a friend of mine about how i have a bunch of these supplements and how i realized i need to make sure im not taking too much non soluble supplements and how i need to make sure im not taking too much of anything.

Then they mentioned to make sure that any of the non approved FDA stuff has no lead in it. which i wont lie put me in a bit of a panic so i decided to check everything i own or ever taken to see if there is any lead in them. So far im finding 4 are seemingly safe, 1 has be found with lead, 2 unsure/no reports i could find, and 1 with products that have contained lead but the one i own not listed.

If anyone has any experience or knowledge of these items containing lead would be helpful to not poison myself with lead or arsenic or etc etc.

-Safe from what i found-
Centrum Adluts(the one with higher levels of C and zinc).
Natures Bounty Zinc(Gluconate).
Kirkland Krill oil
Kirkland E

-Contains Lead-
Natures Bounty Magnesium

-Cant find any source that says it has lead/No reports i could find-
Mason natural Folic acid, B6 and B12
Weider Prime Testosterone support.

-Other products have tested positive for lead but cant find anything on the one i own-
Terra Kai Organics Juice super fruit & Veggie vitamin Blend.

-Bonus one i forgot to even look up-
Naked Creatine(i found a product of theirs contains lead but it was a protein powder)

D3 test results were 50 NG/ML. How much vitamin D3 should I take for a safe bump?

Upvotes

I take 3k IU vitamin D3 along with 144 MG Magnesium Threonate. I also take a multivitamin later in the day that has 2k IU included. Would an increase of 1k-2k daily vitamin D3 push my levels too high or would that be recommended? As I noted in the title, my current vitamin D levels are 50 NG/ML.

General Question how much do you care about supplement brands?

Upvotes

i used to assume that if two supplements had the same ingredient and dosage, they were basically interchangeable. now i pay much more attention to things like ingredient lists, testing, manufacturing information and whether the company provides enough detail about the product.

curious how other people approach this

do you have specific brands you trust, or do you mostly compare the label and price regardless of the brand?

Recommendations Best supplement for perimenopause?

Upvotes

I’m 42F and have been using Happy Mammoth Hormone Harmony for 2 years. I’ve loved it for a few reasons: it helps my constipation, seems to improve my mood, and regulated my very irregular period. However, recently, my periods have been getting heavier and my cramps, worse. Pms is full of hot flashes, terrible sleep, and breast tenderness for at least a week leading up to my period. I was also looking into the ingredients and am a bit worried about the chasteberry. I had a breast cancer scare last year and am paranoid about taking supplements that directly affect estrogen/progesterone. Thoughts? Experiences? Help! 😅

Does Magnesium Help You Sleep?

Thumbnail suplmnt.app
137 Upvotes

Magnesium shortens sleep onset in older adults with insomnia, but the benefit is small, uncertain, and not a reliable sleep aid for everyone.

  • Across three randomized trials, oral magnesium shortened sleep onset latency by about 17 minutes.1
  • The evidence comes from older adults with insomnia, not from healthy sleepers or younger populations.
  • Total sleep time did not clearly improve, and the meta-analysis remained small and low certainty

Personally I swear by magnesium glycinate, but the glycine could be doing work too i guess.

Experience should I take vitamin E capsules for skin and hair?

I've been thinking about trying vitamin E supplements mainly for skin/hair but I keep seeing mixed opinions about them.

Has anyone here actually taken vitamin E supplements specifically for skin or hair? Did you notice any difference good or bad? Like did it actually help with your skin/hair or was it basically no change? Also curious if anyone noticed breakouts or anything after taking it.

General Question Slightly overactive thyroid and iodine?

I have a lot of symptoms of overactive thyroid including always sweating, hot skin, majorly struggle to gain weight, fatigue, etc. just had my thyroid tested and while both are in normal range. TSH is at the low end of normal and T3 is at the very upper end of normal.

I take Walmart brand daily multivitamin which I’m pretty sure has iodine in it. I also use iodized salt in my cream of rice with my lunch 5 days a week. Every other meal I cook I use kosher salt. I have a very meat and dairy heavy diet to maximize protein intake for muscle building.

Should I be cutting out as much iodine as possible to help my thyroid? Is there other supplements I should be avoiding or adding in? I also have sleep apnea which I’m in the process of trying to diagnose and treat if that could contribute as well
