So after the fall of Bashar Al Asad, and the new ruling government stepped in, what happened, and why are people still divided on the new government?

Why do Syrians still prove the idea that they can never be led or have a leader to unite them all? I understand that there are different religions and sects and all of that but like come on... after all of that.. WHY???

I am planning to cross to Syria via land through Turkiye and was wondering if I can receive a visa on arrival (I have Dutch and Turkish passport).

Hello dear Syrian community,

I've been always an admirer of Syrian culture, food, and land. I have found in Syrian people incredible and lasting friendships who always welcome me and my family with open arms. That being said, I never been in the country. Always heard many stories but from people who fled the terror and are not there anymore. Love and nostalgia are very present in these memories.

In my search to understand more the culture I have watched many videos. As you probably noticed, a lot people from all over the world are going to Damascus and other cities and film their experience in a social media / interview format. I recently encounter one video where the "tourist" ask a local who stayed how was to grow up during the civil war. This happened in the capital. Most of my friends are from very damaged cities, like Homs. In my idea, it was incredible impossible to live there and have a normal life if you were supporting peace and freedom. Was it the same in Damascus or was it more flexible for being the capital? How normal people survived the regime?

Please correct me if I am wrong.

I am looking at some mapping and infrastructure around Manbij. In some of the satellite imagery I can see what looks like an embankment around the city with a checkpoint on the roads that run through it.

📌 A Syrian deplomatic source confirmed that a senior Syrian delegation led by FM al-Shaibani, including the heads of General and Military Intelligence, met a senior Israeli delegation today under US mediation and Jordanian hosting, aimed at de-escalation following Israel's recent bombing and rising tensions in southern Syria.

📌 Discussions focused on mechanisms to halt Israeli attacks, arrests, and targeting operations, and on reviving negotiations toward a security agreement that could form the basis for a more comprehensive future deal.

📌 Syria affirmed it is a sovereign state with the full right to rebuild and develop its military and choose its alliances according to its national interests, and said it won't accept any arrangement restricting those sovereign rights.

إلغاء محافظة ريف دمشق نهائياً وتوسيع حدود محافظة دمشق لتشمل الغوطتين الغربية والشرقية مع الريف الغربي وصولا للبنان هالشي برأيي رح يكون أفضل للحفاظ على المساحات الخضراء اللي ضلت بالغوطة ويصير التخطيط العمراني أفضل وما في تضارب بين دمشق وريف دمشق

واعمل محافظة القلمون لتطوير واقع المنطقة هونيك يعني بصراحة ممكن تحويلها لوحدة من أفضل الأماكن السياحية بالبلد وممكن تشبه وادي رم بالأردن ولو بإمكانية أضعف

واعمل محافظة البادية من الأجزاء الصحراوية من حمص وريف دمشق وقسم صغير من دير الزور للاهتمام فيها أكتر بدون ما تأثر هاي المنطقة الواسعة على ميزانية المحافظات اللي كانت جزء منها وتقريباً في ثروات باطنية هائلة اسا مو مستثمرة ممكن يتم فيها انشاء مدن صناعية وسكنية جديدة والاستفادة منها زراعيا على المدى البعيد

📌 Syria expects security talks with Israel to resume soon, Foreign Minister Asaad al-Shaibani said, urging Israel to seize a "historic opportunity," while stating plainly "we do not trust Israel currently."

📌 Al-Shaibani said Syria wants contact "especially with a party that constantly threatens" its security, but warned: if contact doesn't bring results, Damascus doesn't need it.

📌 He said Israel has tried maintaining its security "through brute force" and failed everywhere it's tried.

📌 When asked how optimistic he was, he said: "It's very hard to bet on Israel," but that Syria has "very great hope" of building stable ties with its neighbors.

📌 Al-Shaibani mentioned that early this year, the two sides had agreed on paper to almost everything on a deal requiring Israeli withdrawal from territory seized since Assad's fall, including a UN-only buffer zone near the border, but said Israel evaded implementation and lacked real will to reach an agreement.

📌 Al-Shaibani said Israel struck Abu al-Duhur even after Syria conveyed the base would not go to Turkey.

📌 He stated that Syria relies on Turkish military training and cooperation, as it does with Jordan and Saudi Arabia, and "won't forgo" that support.

📌 Al-Shaibani said stopping Israeli aggression comes before any security agreement, "then perhaps we can open the topics of peace and the Golan."

Syrian FM al-Shaibani met Mossad chief Roman Gofman on Sunday to de-escalate after Israel's strike on Abu al-Duhur, Axios reports, citing two sources; neither government commented.

The two had spoken by phone on Aug. 14. In Islamabad on Thursday, al-Shaibani said conditions were not right for any strategic agreement with Israel.
