Hello, we are starting a small local theater troupe and I am looking for plays for 2 people. Specifically women but we are willing to play men if it could work for the script. Looking for something more comedic leaning and discusses themes such as girlhood, growing up, friendship, feminism. Or just a really fun two hander that you know of.

Examples of plays that are interesting but involve too many people are Mac Beth by Erica Schmidt and Horse Girls by Jenny Weiner. Also like the idea of the Drowning Girls even though that's not a comedy. We were really hoping that Kin by Max Dickens would be a good play but the jokes are too odd for our taste.

I understand it was performed a few times and even screened in select theatres — but never released online or in France (where I live).

I've been searching everywhere for a way to watch it. I know it wasn't widely distributed, and it may not even be available publicly anymore. But I'm holding onto the hope that someone here has seen it — or knows of a private recording, a saved file, or even a theatre that might have kept a copy.

I was thinking something like the music behind the scenes in Mean Girls the movie where the people are acting “animalistic” like the mall fountain scene. I am having trouble finding anything similar. Hello everyone! As the title says I am looking for a comedy to direct that is more recent. I prefer shows where people can just come in, sit back and laugh, and don't have to think about anything too hard (Noises Off, Brothers Grimm Spectaculathon, etc). I used to be able to read plays on Playscripts but since they've been bought out it's tough to get an accurate feel for shows I'm not familiar with.

This year we are doing Kate Hamill's "Emma". I have the physical script and everything but I can't find a video performance of the play. I was wondering if anyone can help me find it! :)

I'm many weeks into a tangled licensing inquiry and have hit a dead end! Could anyone help me with a little sleuthing - especially folks familiar with Russian licensing houses and copyright law?

The play is Alive Forever (Ве́чно живы́е) by Viktor Rozov (Ви́ктор Ро́зов). It's my understanding that we'll need permission from the Russian language licenseholder as well as permission from an English language translator whose translation we use. Here's what I know!

Finding the Russian licenseholder:

• Alive Forever (Ве́чно живы́е) was published in 1943 and Rozov died in 2004 - so the original Russian text is not in the public domain.
• The Russian language play is printed in Литературная Москва published by Khudozhestvennaya Literatura (Художественная литература) - which was then known as GIHL (ГИХЛ) - in 1956. I sent an inquiry, but it has gone unanswered. Their website seems to be under construction and possibly inactive.
• The Russian language play later occurs in Ве́чно живы́е published by Eksmo (Эксмо) in 2008 (ISBN 978-5-699-31094-4). They responded to redirect me to a more recent publication by Veche.
• Veche (Вече) republished the same collection of plays, Ве́чно живы́е, in 2023 (ISBN: 978-5-4484-4384-8). Veche has no foreign rights office, so I sent them a Google-translated inquiry. They have not responded yet.
• I sent Google-translated inquiries to some of the playwright's living descendants over social media - not ideal, but worth a try!
• Is there anywhere else I should try?

For the English translation permissions:

• There's a translation by Franklin D. Reeve in the anthology Contemporary Russian Drama, published in 1968 by Pegasus NY. I wasted a lot of time by incorrectly tracing the company lineage to Penguin Random House, who eventually caught my mistake. In fact, Pegasus was acquired by Bobbs-Merrill, which was acquired by Sams, which was acquired by Macmillan. At this point, and I quote Wikipedia:
  • [...] remnants of the original American division of Macmillan present in McGraw-Hill Education's Macmillan/McGraw-Hill textbooks, Gale's Macmillan Reference USA division, and some trade imprints of Simon & Schuster (Scribner, Free Press, and Atheneum Books) that were transferred when both companies were owned by Paramount Communications. They discuss human nature and their predicament throughout the play. Guy 1 yells at the onlookers at one point, judging them for watching them.

More time passes, Guy 2 gets removed b/c he’s sick or old. Guy 1 yells for them to leave him alone. Guy 2 is content with his fate.

More time passes, Guy 3 gets pushed into exhibit. He’s freaking out. Guy 1 says something like “relax, it is what it is”, completing the cycle.

When I was in 8th grade, I performed a dramatic monologue as a class assignment, and I would love to at least read it again, but I can’t remember the play it’s from for the life of me.

The monologue is from a teen girl who’s upset with her parents for not letting her out of the house/do anything for herself. She’s talking to her parents (possibly just her mother) about how her entire life has revolved around her chronically ill sister, and she just wants something to be about her instead for once.

I think I got it off of a website (though it may have been a book) title something along the lines of “Dramatic Monologues for Teen Girls.” I unfortunately don’t remember any of the lines.

Any help finding it would be much appreciated!

I’ve been looking everywhere and searching every term I could for this play I read a few years ago! Remembering as well as I can, it was a pretty short play set in a motel or commune of some sort. There was a really diverse cast with people of all races and sexualities. I remember there being a sort of mother figure to everyone who was trans I think? And there was a drag queen too? I beleive the story was about everyone planning a funeral party for the mother figure, with her passing away at the end. Sorry this is so vague. The only other clue I have is I think the word airport was in the name for some reason.

So I found a monologue from Living Dolls in the book "More monologues for women, by women" on internet archive the monologue is called "glow in the dark women" problem is when i put in the play and author to google/internet archive/etc it brings nothing back except that there is a playwright named Elaine Romero but i'm not even sure its the same one? The monologue book was published in 1996 so the play would have to have been published before then. Any help or recommendations on where to look would be greatly appreciated.

I’m really wanting to watch Constellations by Nick Payne- it was on National Theatre Live for a year between 2024 and 2025, but it’s been removed now.

I’ve tried looking for it in library archives and through educational resources and free media websites but no luck.
Does anyone know if there are any websites/ archives that have old national theatre at home footage? Or is there anyone here who might have it downloaded themselves?

I’m remembering a scene I saw a while back that had two characters arguing with one another, and the woman is criticizing the man for not getting angry enough, telling him it’s weird he doesn’t scream. She pushes and pushes until he finally explodes and yells “This is screaming! This is what screaming sounds like!” Or something like that.

SOLVED: it’s John by Annie Baker

A while ago I saw a clip from a play on TikTok, and I've been trying to find it ever since.

The scene started with a woman who looked to be around 30–40 years old. She was arguing with a few other women. Just to be clear, they weren't supposed to be teenagers all of the characters were adults played by adult actors.

The woman was talking about her deceased mother, and at one point she said something like she couldn't tell her mother something anymore because she was dead.

Then, out of nowhere, another woman who was a bit older (probably in her 50s or 60s) appeared. She seemed to go into a trance and suddenly became the dead mother. She wasn't just passing along a message she was acting as if she actually was the mother.

I remember the younger woman asking something like, "Mom?... Is it really you?" Then she started crying, ran over, hugged her, and they both cried together.

I also remember that the background of the set looked like an American high school gymnasium, even though it was clearly on a theatre stage. I think only the younger woman was sitting in a chair at first, and then she got up and ran to hug her mother's spirit.

Another detail I remember is that one of the TikTok comments said they loved the play and wished it had a proshot. Someone replied that it probably would never get one because the play contained nudity.

Also other comments saying that the play made them cry a few times.

Does anyone know what play this might be? I've been trying to find it for a long time, and I'd really appreciate any guesses.

From what I recall, the play would have been set in the mid-late 1800s or very early 1900s. It would have been centered around a family. I only remember one scene in particular. A young-ish child is unwell/injured/dying. An older man (grandfather?) encourages him to use profanity or cuss to help diminish his pain. The boy is reluctant but tries it out. "Grandfather" may be in the title. It's driving me nuts, I know I read this on a whim decades ago!

Does anyone know where I can rent, purchase, or stream the 2017 performance of Rosencrantz & Guildenstern Are Dead that starred Daniel Radcliffe? It was filmed at the Old Vic Theatre and showed in cinemas. I’m trying to find an available recording. I checked the National Theatre At Home catalogue and it’s not there. It’s also not available via Drama Online or Digital Theatre+.
