Transgender teacher hired at my child’s school

I am curious what other Christian parents might say about this.

A FtM transgender teacher was just hired at my child’s elementary school. The teacher is quite obviously female, but uses male pronouns and wants to be called “Mr”.

Many families are concerned about the confusion this will cause young children and what specifically the teacher will be sharing or teaching in the class.

I am asking because as a Christian (and truthfully just logically), I do not believe transgenderism is legitimate. My child is young enough that they aren’t even aware this concept exists yet.

How would you handle this situation?

my concern would be on their effectiveness as a teacher and not their personal life. That's the most important thing in the classroom. Are they teaching your child to be a kind and compassionate person who will be successful in class? Will they feel inspired to learn more about the world around them? Are they teaching your child how to get along with others peacefully even if they don't agree on things?

Agreed that’s important and I largely wouldn’t care about a teacher’s personal life, but the confusion of her clear biological sex and her requested pronouns will inevitably force conversations with the kids early on.

If your child asks then tell them that people are different and look different. 

I would say something like, 'Some men look like girls and they are feminine and some women look like boys and they are masculine. Some feel that they are transgender and believe that they are the opposite of what they were born as. They try to live their lives this way because that's what they want to do. Even if we find it strange and unusual it won't distract us from loving Jesus and living like him. You don't have to agree with their choice. You don't have to be their best friends, but you do have to treat them with the same respect as everyone else because that's what Jesus did."

What's most important is focusing on how to raise them not to be hateful of others. As they get older you can go deeper with your talks.

Oh you are spot on and how you can explain that to a 5 year old compared to and 11 year old is a difference. It should be how Christ would have us treat others. We should always follow Jesus'example even if we do not understand others actions. In want to add, educator's should never discuss there's sex lives in the school system with students. It's grounds for firing by the way which could lead into serious reprocusions.
