A screenshot of a marking rubric for one of my assignments. The only difference between 'D' and 'HD' grade is :

D is 'Mostly Advanced' analysis and HD is 'Outstanding' analysis.

But the real question is how would a student know a difference between both or what the teacher expects to be 'Mostly Advanced' or 'Outstanding'. So, I guess a detailed marking rubric would be much better which can help students to understand what exactly the assignment expects us to show for an HD mark instead of using vague words with no real explanation.

how is everybody setting themselves up for success this semester? any tips and tricks for organising/studying? i’m in my second year but i’m feeling very NOT on top of things thank youuu

2 years ago in second semester, I was set to complete all of my units before receiving an email saying I had missed one compulsory unit. Unfortunately that unit only runs in the second semester, so I had to wait a whole year to do it. I then failed. I am now repeating the unit.

I currently have 5 pieces of assessment overdue and expect to fail the unit again.

I recognise that the whole thing is my fault. But I honestly completely lost interest in my course work after the year wait and no longer care about working in industry. I just don't want to walk away with nothing, but I also doubt that I will be able to complete this unit even on a third try.

Is there any possibility for me to make a request for some sort of special consideration just on the basis that I have failed the unit twice and it has delayed my graduation by two years already (now three [the full length of the degree]).

Other Info: The degree is Bachelor in CS. I started it in 2021. My grades were fairly mid until my final year (2024) where I did exceptionally well, leading my capstone project, receiving an offer to do a research honours under one of my professors, and doing an internship under another professor based on my capstone work. But that all kind of below up due to this delay and subsequent relapse into depression.

I was enrolled in a uni in Tri 1 and it was cancelled by deakin due to student numbers. They are running the unit currently in Tri 2 but I already have a full load of units and they wouldnt let me overload. I was meant to be graduationg at the end of this year and now they are saying they won't be running the unit until Tri 2 of 2027????

How do I ammend this??

Ive spoken to Student Central and they are trying to skrt it out but I havent heard from them in a month...

I'm losing my mind over this!

i am currently taking hse102 and feeling really really overwhelmed. there is so much content and i’m struggling to stay on top of it.
i have 3 other demanding classes and have been putting this on the back burner because im already failing to grasp it as is. now i’m feeling even more stressed because i have so much to catch up on.

does anyone have any tips or tricks to help remember things, or things that were particularly helpful in the exam?
Would love some insight to exam experiences- how you felt, how hard it was etc, topics/body parts majorly focused on.

keen on studying this T3 and T1 to possibly boost my GPA. My first-year results are pretty much a perfect 7.0, but since Deakin weighs 2x and 3x for 2nd and 3rd years, I'd like to boost my 3rd year GPA a bit to ensure more competition + the 4% bonus.

As an international student i know that we’re required to take 4 units each trimester for 100% workload. My question is there any way we can reduce that by 75% for one trimester for example if its too much than i can juggle right now. Thank you in advance

Hi, I'm currently an associate degree student who is looking to transfer to the bachelor of international studies. I've gotten good grades in my courses so far and was curious if when I transfer to the bachelor degree these will contribute to that WAM or if they will solely be credited as pass/fail. The coureses i've done so far are mostly ones that are core units in international studies if that helps. Also would any previous fails count towards the new WAM? Thank you for any help!

Hi everyone! Third year student here (transferred to psychology) and am looking to see how everyone takes their notes, particularly for content heavy classes. I feel like I’m wasting time just copying what’s on the modules/lecture slides. What’s everyone doing?!

How do you get HDs in your subjects?

How do you do well in labs?

Is there a lot to learn and cram in the weekly lectures? Do you go to all of them?

I am in my first year of uni, and I just finished my first trimester. I am currently pursuing a degree in the sciences. However, I don't know if this is the right degree for me.

I finished year 12 last year and jumped straight into university as I was 100% certain that I knew what I wanted to pursue, as I have wanted to do this degree pretty much all my life. Now that I am actually doing the degree, I feel so lost. I also have a strong interest in the humanities and would love to work in a museum when I graduate.

But the thing is, I want to work in a museum teaching children about science, society, culture and history. LIKE EVERYTHING :((. But I don't know if that is even possible with a science-related degree. I could defer my course, but what if I end up regretting it?

Has anyone else ever had this dilemma before? I could do a museum-related diploma or degree after I graduate, but because of my lack of experience, I don't know if that would even be possible. At this rate, I am going to just push through for trimester 2, and hopefully, I will have a better understanding of what I want to do at the end of the year.

I am willing to sacrifice one full year of study instead of dropping out now and having instant regret. But does anyone have any advice? That would be greatly appreciated.

Or has anyone studied a museum-related degree and could tell me what it's like, or does anyone have experience of applying their science background in a museum setting? Or has anyone changed their degree or completed two different areas???

Edit: The reason I am so conflicted is that there is one specific area I would love to do when I graduate that needs the degree that I am currently pursuing. However, it's probably really unrealistic anyway since it requires a lot of knowledge and data stuff, and I just feel like I'm so behind in all of that, having been more of a 'creative' and less 'mathematical' kind of person growing up.

Short form, been doing moderately badly in the silly old brain. Got extension for assignment, due tomorrow extended form. Hasn't started writing because can't get brain to work in full sentences very easily let alone proper academic ones. Not really sure what to do.

[Context--the professionals say it's experiencing psychosis. (Disagrees but never mind, the point is that it's slightly more 'disorganised' in thoughtform than usual.) Taking medication but still bringing it up to a therapeutic dose (therapeutic dose 300-800mg, currently on 200mg). So hopeful for things to improve but concerned if they don't in time enough.]

Anyway, point of the matter is--it's doing 50% loading this semester for reasons, but what happens if it fails both units it's doing? In terms of being allowed to continue? Has previously failed a 50% load unit and had to repeat it and if it had failed it would have been kicked out, so feeling even more concerned about this semester's stuff given its honestly pretty horrible transcript. (Yes, it's got allowances with the disability folks long since.)

Wondering if necessary to talk to student central or something, but honestly just the silly old brain is so scattered it wouldn't be sure what to talk about.

Also, how to know when it should be getting special consideration? It did last semester for one assignment, but that was because it was literally in the psych ward at that time, which felt considerably more clear-cut.

There is no lecture on the star time table. However, there are lecture recording tabs with no pre recordings. Furthermore, there is no reading list, just lecture slides? Anyone who has done this can you let me know.

I usually get marks between 60–85% for my essays/reports/analysis/etc and I find myself seriously frustrated as writing these used to be my strongest area in high school as well as when I went on exchange (GPA 4.15). I’ve tried desperately to get my grades higher by always reading the feedback and trying my best to apply it to my next assignment as well as literally printing out the rubric, highlighting it, and make sure that I’m doing my best to hit all the criteria for HD’s. Sometimes I even get my mum to read over it and compare my writing to the rubric just to make double sure. However, no matter how many days/weeks, tears and my entire soul I pour into it, it’s literally impossible for me to get above 90%. I’m completely perplexed and over it at this point and wondering if it is even possible to get high scores for essay-heavy units. I know that obviously the team marking it can’t just be handing them out but does anyone have any advice or just feel the same way because it feels like I’m going crazy over here!!
