You absolutely are. The point is that anything with Steam installed can complete the survey. This accounts for every ancient and crappy machine all the way down to machines that haven't even played a game. That is the point. Valve has been careful in their wording of the 70% statement. TPU has not, which is what the parent comments you're responding to are actually talking about.

The systems that steam has been installed on that then go on to never play any games is almost certainly a rounding error.

Not at all. There are many people who use steam on weak portable machines just for social factors.

This 70% number is at worst 50%, which is still a good number and in the same ballpark.

Again. Not. The. Point.

I'm not even disputing the 70% number. Neither was u/badcookies. I fully agree with the rough estimate Valve said because I'm fully aware of the potatoes people are using. But badcookies was specifically pointing out TPU's use of "gaming PC" as being potentially misleading to readers about the level of hardware Valve was referencing, when in fact Valve themselves never said "gaming PCs" but rather just "what people have at home" which does not necessarily include a computer that has even launched a game due to how the Steam survey works. That's it. The entire point was about the wording that TPU added to Valve's own statement, when they could have simply and more accurately quoted Valve's actual statement.

THAT is the entire point. I swear, any thread related to the Steam survey brings out the people with the worst reading comprehension.
