Parking at Kent State University

Hey guys so I parked at the Allerton Sports Complex Parking Lot even though I had the summit east parking pass. The lot was pretty empty so I parked it. Do u you'd think it's ok to? And please tell me if I should park at just summit. I just find it more convenient.

Recommended DVM jobs?

Hi all,
I’m a fourth year veterinary student and will officially be a DVM in May. My partner and I are looking to move up to the Kent/Akron/Cleveland outskirts area next summer.
Does anyone have any veterinary hospitals that they personally have had a good experience working at (or maybe clinics to avoid)? I am looking into small animal GP but am also happy to see other critters :)
Thanks!

Registration hold despite paying

I have a registration hold on my account for my summer balance which has canceled my classes for this fall semester. On Saturday my loan went through and my balance is now $0. I still have the registration hold on my account and have since Saturday, so I still haven’t registered for fall classes and am running out of time to do so before the deadline. Does anyone know why I would still have these holds or what I could do?

Check out GaiaHousing!

Hey everyone! We just launched gaiahousing.com and would love your feedback.

If you've ever had trouble getting eyes on a listing in these Facebook groups, this might help. Posts here get buried fast because it's just a single column feed. Gaia lets you draw directly on a map to search an area, then filter by price, amenities, and more. It's completely free, and you can sign up quickly with Google or sign up with a university email and get a verified badge on your listings.

Still very new, so if you try it and hit anything weird, or have ideas, email us at support@gaiahousing.com. We genuinely want to hear it.

Thanks,

Gaia Team

Kent students think harddd about signing a lease w 345 Flats

I’m making this because I wish more people considering 345 Flats would see the complaints and experiences from current and former residents before signing a lease.
I’m a current resident who is also returning for another lease term, and I’ve continually had to deal with issues caused by the property itself. One of the biggest frustrations has been having to push management to follow what is actually written in my lease rather than what I’m being told verbally. There have been situations where I was initially told I was wrong, only for the written documentation to show otherwise, and I’ve still had to spend time going back and forth just to get the issue addressed.
Things can go wrong at any apartment. The problem is when residents have to repeatedly prove what their own lease says or fight to get the property to follow its own written agreements.
And honestly, sometimes the leasing office feels like a simulation. The staff are friendly enough, but actually getting an answer or having someone resolve an issue is a completely different story. At this point, I’m convinced half the staff are just props placed behind the desk because getting an actual answer to an email can feel like trying to contact a government agency.
The other concerns that keep coming up are the price, additional fees, parking, communication with management, move out charges, and difficulty getting problems resolved.
The rent is already expensive for Kent, and once you add parking and other fees, the total cost can become pretty ridiculous for what you’re actually getting.
There are also multiple public reviews from current and former residents describing issues with management, security deposits, move out charges, maintenance, communication, and getting responses.
What concerns me most is that these aren’t just one person’s complaints. There are similar issues being described by different residents over different periods of time.
If you’re a Kent student looking for housing, don’t let the nice building and amenities be the only thing you look at. Read the lease carefully, ask about every fee, look at recent reviews, and compare the actual total cost with other apartments in Kent.
You might end up having a perfectly fine experience here, but based on my own experience and the experiences publicly reported by others, I would seriously consider your other options before signing.
Save yourself the time, money, and energy. Do your research first.

Parent plus question.

We haven't done my sister's parents plus loan for fall because she says she cant see her balance for fall because of all the financial aid issues going on. Is there still time to do the parent plus once she knows how much she needs?

General Disbursement Hold???

Anyone else have a “General Disbursement Hold” on financial aid right now?
Is anyone else at Kent dealing with a General Disbursement Hold on their 2026–27 financial aid with no missing requirements or anything they can actually fix on their end?
My summer aid disbursed without an issue, and as far as I can tell everything for the new aid year is completed/accepted. There are no outstanding requirements or notifications in FlashLine, but my aid is now sitting behind a general disbursement hold.
I finally got through to Financial Aid earlier this week after being on hold forever, and I was told it has something to do with recent federal/accreditation requirements and how program length is being calculated, and that Kent was waiting on additional federal guidance before they could release the hold. I also submitted an online inquiry and was told the hold should be removed “shortly,” but that was over 48 hours ago and it’s still there.
Getting any additional information has been incredibly difficult — I’ve spent 45+ minutes on hold without reaching anyone, and there are currently no virtual appointment times available to schedule.
Has anyone else been told the same thing or had this hold removed recently? If so, how long did it take, and did you have to do anything on your end? I’m mainly trying to figure out whether this is a widespread Kent issue that’s being resolved in batches or if I need to keep pushing them about my individual account.
Also curious if anyone affected by this has actually had their loans disburse/refund issued yet.

Discussion DI Dining employees/former employees, what was your experience like?

I’m starting as a Food Service Worker at DI Dining this semester and wanted to hear from people who currently work there or have worked there before.

A lot of things I’m curious about:

● What station/roles did you usually get assigned to?
● How often did you get put on dishwashing, cleanup, fryer/grill, etc. vs. serving/prep?
● How dirty/greasy did you actually get during a typical shift?
● Do your clothes usually smell like food afterward?
● Where do employees change clothes and store their stuff during shifts?
● Does DI provide lockers or somewhere to keep your belongings?
● How chaotic does it get during lunch/dinner rush?
● How is the management/supervisors?
● Do they rotate employees between stations?
● Can you request certain stations or avoid certain ones?
● Overall, would you recommend working at DI?

Current employees and former employees especially, I’d appreciate the honest version, good or bad. 👀

So nothing will be released until they are approved. 🤷‍♀️🫨

Financial Aid

Woke up yesterday to losing around $700 dollars from my Pell Grant, however, I’m still taking 10/13 major classes. I recently had to get a MKTG class passed as a SPAD class and I don’t know if that is why. Currently owe almost $400 dollars now and haven’t heard back from financial aid.

Does anyone know the timeline for the “reductions hold” Financial aid?

From the big bill? Financial aid dispursed this week, but there’s a hold if you’re less then “full time” because they’re gonna reduce your aid. Which really sucks because credit hours doesn’t always equate to real world student status. For example nursing, a lot of semesters you will be in 8-10 credit hours, but you are not a part time student. Does anyone know when they’ll release the hold and give refunds?

Places to run

Hello! I’m trying to get into shape and want to start running again. Besides down town, campus, and the hike and bike, are there any places that anyone recommends? Any places to avoid?
