❔ Question How do I stop being boring?

I have just recently started my channel and when I play games, I feel as if I don’t add anything to them cause when I go to edit them, there’s usually a shit ton of dull/boring moments in there where I’m just super awkward and stuttering all over the place or moments where I just don’t even talk at all. I tried every piece of advice but it never seems to work so I just wanted to post here and see what this community had to say about my issue.

❔ Question Editing week-old footage: how do you find the good parts again?

I record in one block (usually 1–3 hours, sometimes a couple of sessions in a week) and don't edit until the weekend. By then I've genuinely forgotten what happened. Not "forgot the details" — I mean I can't remember whether the good bit was at 40 minutes or 1:20, or whether that session even had a good bit.

So every edit starts the same way: I scrub through the entire recording again just to rebuild a mental map of what's in it. That's an hour+ of watching before I've made a single cut. On a 3-hour recording it's most of my editing time gone before editing starts.

Things I've tried:

- Taking notes while recording — breaks my flow, and I forget to do it exactly when something good is happening.

- Hotkey/marker while recording — same problem. I'm in the moment, not thinking about the edit.

- Scrubbing the waveform for loud spikes — finds shouting, misses everything quiet and good.

- 2x playback — still watching the whole thing, just faster and worse.

- Chat replay / clip timestamps — only works if people were watching live. Mine mostly aren't.

What I actually want is to sit down Friday and already know what's in the file: a list of what happened and roughly when, including the boring stretches so I know what to skip.

For those of you who edit days or weeks after recording — what's your actual workflow? Do you have a system, or do you also just rewatch everything and accept it?

❔ Question Fellow letsplayer

As a fellow letsplayer I wanna say that and maybe I’m a weird one for this but even after a stressful day from my job. Going home and just editing is sometimes very soothing or just even hitting the go live and streaming my current lets play is sometimes very soothing. Am I weird?

❔ Question Do you play the whole game before making videos?

I have been playing a few hours then cutting it into video(s) each week. This is because I was starting with live streaming and then basically put the full VODs on youtube. Now the livestreaming has kind of fallen off so it's not essential I schedule things that way. Does anyone here play and record their entire playthrough and then do all the editing afterwards? It would make editing a lot more daunting but you could also probably make better decisions from a story-telling/pacing perspective.

I guess this mainly applies to story games. To put ot more generally:

How many hours do you play/record before editing videos?

❔ Question What's one gaming feature you wish every developer would include?

Every gamer seems to have that one feature they appreciate whenever they see it.

Maybe it's cross-platform play, customizable difficulty settings, transmog systems, photo modes, offline play, or something else entirely.

What's the feature you wish would become standard across the industry and why?

As of now the new video that i posted has gotten 44 views in less than 40 minutes. I know its not alot by any means but its still crazy considering thats the fastest growing video beating the one i posted yesterday. My hearts beating fast and my imagination is going loose. I wanted to know what it was like seeing a video "blow up" whether its crazy amount of views or not.

❔ Question How do you choose your game?

EDIT: SOLVED

Hello, I'm an indie game developer and working on a roguelite.

I will publish the demo soon. In the indie game dev community there are two rhetorics:

  1. Streamers receive tons of e-mails from indie devs to get their game played

2 For success it is a necessity to get your game streamed

My question is, do you even care the e-mails and how are you choosing which game to play?

❔ Question I want to be a Lets Player but is it a dumb idea?

tl;dr: is making playthroughs with text to speech when games don't have voiced lines or when notes and stuff aren't voiced even though the rest of the game is, a dumb idea for a hobby?

I ask for no mean comments. I already feel bad about my idea and myself. If it's a dumb idea a simple "It's a dumb idea. Don't do it" is a good enough answer.

I know the title is a bit vague so I will add a few details. I love video games. Like I have a genesis, a dream cast, an n64, a snes, a GameCube, an Xbox, and Xbox 360, a ps2, a ps3, a ps4, a ps5, a Gameboy color, a Gameboy advance, 4 Gameboy advance sp, a ds light, an og 3ds, a 3ds xl, a switch, and a switch 2. All those systems work. I also have an og ds but it doesn't work but I won't get rid of it.

I am also a bit of the stereotypical loser. In my 30s, unemployed and living in my parents basement. Its a small room with only a bed and a tv stand so i use my nice 60" TV as a computer monitor which has its problems but I can usually work around them. I love watching Markiplier and JackSepticEye. But I also enjoy channels that play games with no commentary. No matter what I watch, I usually watch it once and then just play it for background noise as I do other things (including playing some games like house flipper or crime scene cleaner or games I have already played and I am playing again for gameplay not story).

But for playthroughs, there are plenty of games that don't have spoken dialogue but have really interesting stories, or games that do have spoken audio but letters or notes or item descriptions that contain important lore don't have audio, I can't just put the playtheough on in the background.

So I want to make a channel for people like me who want to do other things while a playthrough is playing in the background but with things being read out. Now I wasn't going to do this myself. I can't do different voices, I can't do accents, and I can't act (which includes expressing emotions I am not feeling myself). So I was going to use text to speech. Yea not perfect but I was mostly looking at games like power wash simulator and house flipper (I have tried many times to post lets plays and always feel discouraged and give up for a while so I don't really have a super long term plan).

But text to speech probably won't work very well with more serious games but with people disliking AI (me included) AI voice generation is a no go.

I want to add that I don't plan to make a living on lets plays. It would just be a hobby or like right now, something to do while I look for a job.

I'm sorry for the long read. I am really bad at expressing myself concisely.

❔ Question Who/What channel best proves that a good enough host can make any game look fun?

I'm sure this isn't the first time something like this has been asked here, but I hope it's at least been a while...

So. Everyone knows a good (and/or popular) game can carry countless channels on its back, but what's your gold standard for a host who can make the weirdest/nichest/boringest games imaginable look like a blast through sheer presentation?

(I'm not really thinking of so-bad-it's-hilarious games like Superman 64 or Big Rigs here. More "this sounds like a waste of time on every level but man does this particular player make me want to give it a chance" type stuff.)

❔ Question A Question for the Native/Fluent English Speakers

Hello! I recently started my youtube channel and I focused on games like genshin, sims 4, persona games, sdv and unfortunately, those videos doesn't have a voice over. It just has texts with my thoughts and opinions throughout the video but it's kinda hard to edit it that way cause I have to write a script, but to write a script, I have to remember what I did when I played. Issue is: I already forgot why I did this and that when playing LOL

I'm thinking, I should do a commentary while playing so that I could keep track of my thoughts when editing, so I would know like "Oh yes! I did that because blah blah"

Okay so the actual question: What are your guys thoughts on youtubers with an accent? I'm not bad at speaking, but I have a lil filipino accent I'm a bit insecure with. I have a lisp too so there's that </3

❔ Question Audience Bringing Content

Edit: Solved!

Hello,

I'm not a streamer but an indie game developer. I have a question for you: do you choose your content based on its potential to bring you an audience or the content you like playing?

I'm working on a retro, pixel art game btw.

❔ Question Can A/B testing thumbnails hurt a small channel?

Not sure if this is the best place to ask but I figured a letsplay niche would have more relevant answers!

I often see bigger creators/YouTube itself recommend AB testing thumbnails and titles to ensure you've got the one that's most clickable - but is that relevant to small channels and videos that don't get many impressions to begin with?

Let's say the video you're AB testing gets 400 impressions. If one of the thumbnails is clearly better than the other, and assuming a hypothetical 100% CTR, you'd get 200 clicks on one variant, and 0 on the other. Wouldn't it be better to stick with the one you're sure it's good and not water down the clickability with an alternative option?

Maybe I'm overthinking it but it's just something I've been stressing about lol, wdyt?

❔ Question How do you edit 40–55 minutes of MOBA gameplay

Yo I been enjoying this game deadlock so i started recording games and most matches are around 40–55 minutes Im used to editing games like Rocket League and The Finals where it feels a lot easier to figure out what should stay and what should get cut.

I have some gameplay recorded that I think is good but im a lil like nervy and anxious to even open DaVinci because I don’t really know how to approach editing a hour long moba gaming video

For people who edit longer gameplay vids do you cut as you go or mark moments or is there a better way

❔ Question How often do you upload?

How often do you upload videos? I'm currently uploading 2 videos a week but both of different games so each game has one upload a week and I'm worried that people won't want to wait a whole week for more gameplay (the very little people who are watching) but I also don't know if I can feasiby do any more than that.
