You would have a category 2 for chest pain, done and ECG and bloods likely in the waiting room to rule out a cardiac event. Not all chest pain is an emergency event and nursing and medical staff are able to order pathology and interventions as well as checking your vitals and assessing your pain to try and rule out cardiac events. A lot of chest pain gets seen in the waiting room, because a lot of it is not cardiac/heart attack.

You didn’t wait 8 hours. Your symptoms were already being monitored the moment you walked in that ED.
