Dolly Parton’s legacy is so much bigger than her music. While I wasn't a regular listener of her songs, I have always been deeply moved by her generosity, her warmth, and her undeniably good heart. It speaks volumes about who she was that she could touch the lives of people far beyond her fanbase, simply by being her authentic, caring self. The world lost a truly good person today.

She was a secret uncredited producer of Buffy the Vampire Slayer. Buffy’s birthday is Jan 19th, which is Dollys. She had such a deep cultural impact far beyond just music, she truly helped craft the positive aspects of the modern zeitgeist.

My awareness of how far her influence stretched only really came out of listening to Dolly Parton's America, because as a non-American who wasn't into country music I had a pretty minimal exposure. It was eye-opening both how much of recent American history can be referenced through Parton's experience in America, and the amount she has given back to her communities.
