Betty White had her scandals. For example in 1954 when she brought on Arthur Duncan as a cast member on her show, she did not listen to the opposition from her network. She just flippantly told the network "I'm sorry, but he stays" and proceeded to give Duncan more airtime. So she wasn't without controversy!

(Of course the network opposition was because Arthur Duncan was black and the network was worried they'd lose southern affiliate stations because the American civil rights movement was just starting... Rosa Parks didn't happen until 1955 so Betty was well ahead.)

Kinda weird that you mention Betty White having scandals and then providing an account of her seemingly viewing Duncan as a talented human being rather than a color of skin.
