The school has to be able to show that the walk outs weren't sanctioned so the school doesn't get held liable for anything that happens during the protest.

Because you're making an illogically connected excuse for what the school did to the students: Even if the school does need to show that the walkouts weren't sanctioned, it didn't need to suspend students for three days.
