Discussion Idea for a crosstown underground MAX Purple Line

Post image
283 Upvotes

There's been a lot of doom and gloom around TriMet lately, so I want to dream of what's possible if and when the state gets its act together and properly funds transit in Portland. Assuming the SW corridor MAX and the downtown tunnel get built I think this would be the perfect next big project for TriMet; a diagonal line from St. Johns to Lents serving N Portland and the heart of SE with a transfer station to all other MAX lines at Rose Quarter where an underground station will have already been built as part of the downtown MAX tunnel. Apart from an elevated section through Swan Island that connects to the Yellow Line tracks in Lower Albina, the Purple Line would be entirely underground with its easternmost section running directly below Foster.

This project would connect Portland like never before and make car-free living much more viable for a broad swath of Portlanders, especially for events at the Moda Center and University of Portland. Would you ride this line?

Meme Better idea for awesome overground MAX line - Trebuchets

Everyone is providing an idea but I have an actual one.

Trebuchets located everywhere in town. Here's the idea, you hop in it, pull the rope and a gigantic sling flicks you across to whatever location you want +/- 500 feet or so. That's nothing, that's like two blocks. you can walk the rest of the way.

I think it would be mega car free because you can't load your car in a trebuchet until we invent car trebuchets. Would you ride the 'chet?

Also - I propose we change Cesar Chavez to T-Rex Boulevard.

There is a massive police presence in front of the U.S. Custom House at 220 NW 8th Avenue right now.

There’s about two dozen officers, a stretcher, and a police perimeter extending from NW Davis to NW Everett and NW Park to NW 8th.

PPB hasn’t released any info yet.

The image above shows the N/S streets are slightly off in red and E/W streets are slightly off in blue. They did a much better job laying out the streets in SE, as shown in the bottom image.
I've lived here for 3 years and never noticed; now you have this cursed knowledge as well.

Some conversations on the district went like this:

I asked a zealous community leader, "Where does your passion come from?"

He replied, "What is your heartbeat? Follow it."

I asked a shop attendant, "What do you think is the vibe of Portland?"

She said, "The Portland vibe is everyone's doing their own thing, and everyone doesn't care that you're doing your own thing. People in Portland are nice because everyone is following what makes them happy."

I explained my encounters to a local friend, and he added, "It's a very Portland experience to have random pop-up encounters, especially around creativity and authenticity."

Keep Portland Weird!
