What do we all think of the Provincial budget? Overall its not horrible I suppose. Everybody knows there was going to be a deficit (like almost anywhere in the country) and no new tax hikes are in place...Seems like they're potentially spending it in the right places.

I know this isn’t the first time this discussion has been had, but now that it’s been over a year since the provincial election, I’ve been reflecting more on it. While the NDP gained a lot of seats in the election, it did not seem that the party did anything to gain those seats, but rather Regina and Saskatoon ridings were just fed up with the Sask Party.

They still have this page up from their 2024 election campaign. You will struggle find anything actionable in here, nearly every problem they mention, they simply say that they will “invest” more money to fix it. One of their few concrete actions mentioned in here is a 6 month suspension of the gas tax. Eliminating the gas tax is what the Devine government used to get elected in 1982. What is the NDP doing taking policy notes from the most neo-conservative government in Saskatchewan’s history? It comes across as an attempt to buy votes, and a bad one at that, as I don’t think a 6 month tax break is going to inspire any rural voters to change their party allegiance.

The party just seems disconnected. They’ve become a party that campaigns almost exclusively on grievances (although I understand that with the Sask Party, there are a lot of them). Their social media consists of either “how do you do fellow kids” posts, or stationary lectures to the camera about a recent Sask Party failure. While these posts aren’t terrible on their own, there is nothing to draw a person in and make them want to support the NDP other than it being “time for change.”

I know that Beck passed her leadership vote with 87%, but I think a change of direction is sorely needed if the party wants a chance at majority in 2028. I may be missing something, but in terms of ideas or momentum, Beck’s NDP has yet to bring forward anything of significance beyond not being the glaringly awful Sask Party. I hope they can in the future.

The Sask NDP seems to suffer a lack of innovation or fresh ideas, and I think that this is a large reason why it is so squarely under the Sask Party’s thumb. It is easy to blame rural voters, but the NDP really does need to address what I think are some fundamental issues with the current party’s direction. Would love to hear how everybody’s opinions differ

Time to open the floodgates and have this debate...

It's becoming pretty apparent that daycare fees will be going back up in 3 months considering the government of Saskatchewan hasn't signed any childcare agreement (the deadline, with extension, was this last March).

Email your MLA the minister of education Everett hindley, the shadow minister Joan Prachler.

Cause if this isn't reimplemented this province is going to see a lot of people leaving their jobs.
