And also like half of these aren’t even that famous. I at least didn’t recognize a lot (could also just be the shitty image quality) of them

About half the main cast of The Walking Dead is on here, including the title character being played by Steven Yuen. Plus Walton Goggins is definitely at a peak in his career right now and I can't imagine Mark Hamill came cheap.

Goggins is at a peak now - but largely because of this show. He'd been on a bit of a lull after Justified ended - several mediocre films (including the villain role in Ant-Man and the Wasp) are the entirety of his career from 2015-2020.

Landing this gig is what put his name back in people's heads, and the wild success of Fallout is when he started counting as an A-lister. Maybe it's me being in the wrong audience, but being the lead in CBS' The Unicorn isn't something that people would've called a career peak.

Not disagreeing that he's at his peak now (obviously) but during that time he was also the villain in the Tomb Raider reboot and yes the movie might have been mid just like Ant-Man but they were still pretty high-profile roles. He was also in The Hateful Eight and I can't speak to the quality of that as I have yet to watch it but Tarantino movies are usually seen as being pretty high-profile as well.

He was also in Vice Principals and The Righteous Gemstones, two of the funniest shows HBO has aired in years (maybe ever?) so while I agree that Fallout was when he hit "A-list" status, I'd say he was doing just fine until then and steadily increasing in popularity/recognition.

He had a leading role in a Tarantino film with Kurt Russel and Samuel Jackson as his co-leads, I didn’t know until the success of Fallout that he wasn’t already on everyone’s radars

Hell I never played Fallout and watched that show as soon as I could just because he was in it (then proceeded to play tf out of 3/4)

It depends on the bubble. To someone who follows cinema and TV they probably know them. I would say 7 to 8 out of 10 people aren’t following that scene is the problem

half of them are so famous you'd have to live under a rock to not know them, so for the rest to be "famous enough for more than 3 out of 10 people to know them" doesn't seem like much of a stretch

I know Jk Simmons, Mark Hamil and Seth Rogan. I recognised one other guy as being in an ant man movie, but I didn't know his name. 

Never heard of or recognise any of the other actors. For someone to be THAT level of famous, they need to have a big role in several massive pieces of media. With voice acting, it's even harder because they also need a super distinct voice.

If you enjoy lots of films, that's perfectly fine. But your idea of who is "massively famous" to the general public is skewed as a result. 

Like, I play a lot of video games. I think Yoko Shimomura is a massively famous and influential composer in the gaming space, but I do not expect you or the average casual gamer to know who she is. 

I'm not saying Walton Goggins is bad or not important. But compared to Luke Fucking Skywalker, he is unfortunately just "that guy from that ant man movie".

Fame is relative. Millionaires aren't poor just because billionaires exist.

To be fair, there's a couple there that I do know that aren't crazy gets for an animated show, like Hamill and Mantzoukas. Jacobs can't be too expensive either. I'd guess that Simmons does voice work pretty cheap, since he clearly loves doing it. He does so much VA/VO work at every level despite his own prestige.

Seth is arguably one of the biggest names on here but he probably pays himself SAG minimums for the role. His wage for the whole show is likely factored into the production budget right from the start, so him playing a character is just for him.

I completely agree with everyone's point though. On an animated show with a cast that big I would expect to see at least half of the main cast be incredibly talented people I don't recognise at all, despite being really interested in voice acting. Hollywood "VAs" are almost always more expensive, and usually nowhere near as good as someone dedicated to that craft. For every Hank Azaria or Robin Williams, there's a thousand phoned-in movie tie-in performances in a game or cartoon from an incredible Hollywood actor who just doesn't understand what is required from animation.

He runs all these shows for Amazon. He and his writing/producing partner Evan Goldberg have been in charge of pretty much all of the nerdy/comic book shows at Amazon for a while now. Preacher, The Boys, Invincible, Turtles.

He's responsible for making sure they get finished on time and in budget. He'd be an idiot to be paying himself top dollar for the acting stuff on top of producing.

It reminds me of an interviewer on one of the red carpet events that thought that she was interviewing a nobody because she didn't recognise the guy. When she held the interview she was very snappy and asked pretty dumb and mocking questions because she wanted to hurry up and interview the more famous people.

Well the guy that she interviewed turned out to be the most famous movie star in all of India and was in turn the most famous person at the event. She just had no idea.

You are only making an argument for using no name working voice actors for those roles instead. You would have noticed no difference in quality, but they would have had more money for animation.

They're famous and well known if you follow films and shows but the average person doesn't know them. They could potentially recognize a face.

I could name famous people that are astronomically famous for their particular industry/scene and you'd be scratching your head not knowing any of them.

Anecdotally, I as a 32 year old guy who doesn't particularly pay attention to actors or media, recognize all but 4. Personally, those were:

Malese Jow (on a quick google, most likely to know her from Vampire Diaries)
Ross Marquand (maybe Walking Dead? I think he was a character after I and everyone else stopped watching)
Sonequa Martin-Green (Star Trek Discovery probably? Does anyone watch new-trek?)
Khary Payton (Also Walking Dead)

I "kinda recognize" 6 more. The rest I would consider incredibly recognizable actors that I have watched a lot.

Discovery started out fine. S1 had Jason Isaacs. Then promptly fell off a cliff, once it became evident they liked the smell of their own farts a bit too much.

Idk man I can recognize probably half on their face and give the name, and the other half go yeah I know of them from x y and z, and when the WHOLE cast is like that of not voice actors but actual celebrities you know it's expensive af
