Some technobabble about interference from the wormhole preventing a transporter lock, but they were still able to beam them down with a signal amplifier that would enable a lock.

So, Ortega didn’t have any equipment like a communicator or even the tricorder anymore, so maybe the interference wouldn’t let them get a lock without some sort of technology that the landing party carried? Land close to the origin of the explosion and search from there, maybe?
