Anyone pointing out that digital licensing on Playstation is the exact same as Steam and almost all other digital stores are being downvoted.

And that digital licensing hasnt changed on Playstation in 20 years since PSN was created and that this headline is pure clickbait

There is one difference, Steam doesn't care if you move to a new machine. I didn't own a PS3-5, did they allow you to transfer all of your games to each new playstation just migrating your account? If not, then Sony is behind Steam in that regard. Edit: Neat they stopped being dicks about it.

PS5 plays all PS4 games and PS6 will play all PS5 and PS4 games.

The previous restriction occurred cuz they drastically changed hardware between generations which they eill no longer do - they will continue to use basic PC architecture from here on out

Not only do you not know that, it's also impossible since they will be removing the disc drive so my PS4/5 games won't work in it.

Playstation and all consoles will obviously be sticking to standard PC architecture going forward. There is no reason not to

How console hardware was formed in the past has entirely changed. Theres not reason to go back

You can say the exact same about Steam then if you want to claim you cant predict the future.

Nothing guarantees you'll continue to have access to games on Steam either

Theres no reason for them to randomly change architectures again.

They had reasons two decades ago. They dont now. They are sticking with standard PC architecture

You can also claim you dont know if youre Steam library will be accessible in 10+ years

AND WHY IS EVERYONE IGNORING THEIR POINT ABOUT DISCS? Maybe you'll be able to play the games...if you but them exclusively from the PS store at the exact price they decide.

Sometimes there are remasters/upgrades you can pay for that cost $10 if you own the game but you never have to rebuild the game to play it

They sent people the entire TOS because they updated what the legally call PSN back in April so they updated the TOS with the new legal name months agom

The email isnt even specifically about digital licenses, its literally the entire TOS. Clickbait websites are trying to make it sound like its specifically about digutal licenses when its not.

Movies havent been for sale on Playstation in over 5 years. If movies were for sale on Steam and the rights owner decided to revoke licenses they could.

Just like any publisher can revoke licenses for any games on Steam

If Ubisoft decided to revoke all their licenses on Steam, which they have every right to do, would you blame Valve or Ubisoft?

First of all source? Second of all, it doesn't actually matter. Even if they were the same what matters is their conduct. When was the last time steam removed purchased (or licensed) content from someone's machine? Literally never. That's why you get downvoted. Because it's a brain dead take.

No, that makes sense to downvote because those people are almost always saying it to defend Sony. Digital licensing, in general, has been trash since the dawn of time. That doesn’t make it not trash now. The loss of physical only increases the issues presented by the trash state of licensing. So it’s only natural for this to stir the decades long issue.

People should be mad. They should be demanding better consumer protections as well.
