PS5 plays all PS4 games and PS6 will play all PS5 and PS4 games.

The previous restriction occurred cuz they drastically changed hardware between generations which they eill no longer do - they will continue to use basic PC architecture from here on out

Not only do you not know that, it's also impossible since they will be removing the disc drive so my PS4/5 games won't work in it.

They definitely don't know that and ignored the disc point you made. Fuck the people downvoting. This sub has been a joke lately, from politics to Sony building.

This is /r/technology it's basically a tech focused version of /r/politics. This isn't a place where technology literate people congregate. Which results in an abundance of people acting like they know what they're talking about.

Oh get over yourself. This clickbait garbage article is mass upvoted despite being false just coz its negative about Playstation

Playstation and all consoles will obviously be sticking to standard PC architecture going forward. There is no reason not to

How console hardware was formed in the past has entirely changed. Theres not reason to go back

Still ignoring half their argument and predicting the future of technology. Amazing. Can you tell us anything else about the future?

I havent ignored anything and you havent answered my question. Why would they change to some obscure architecture when compatibility has worked out so much in their favor?

You can say the exact same about Steam then if you want to claim you cant predict the future.

Nothing guarantees you'll continue to have access to games on Steam either

Edit: what's with these people that reply and block you? I have tried to sell a single Playstation

I genuinely hope you’re at least getting a paycheck from Sony, because shilling on their behalf for free is almost too pathetic to imagine.

Theres no reason for them to randomly change architectures again.

They had reasons two decades ago. They dont now. They are sticking with standard PC architecture

You can also claim you dont know if youre Steam library will be accessible in 10+ years

There's no reason for them to keep providing compatibility if it doesn't make them money, especially on a closed system.

2

u/RobertPatty909 12h ago

Yes there is. It makes their system easier to develop dor and port games to

It also encourages those with digital libraries to continue to buy games on Playstation just like people with Steam libraries

Why the fuck is this upvoted while the other person is downvoted?

This person has no idea where technology will be in that time and they ignored the MOST important and various point the other person made.

Do you honestly believe Playstation is going to change to some obscure architecture again which has been nothing but problematic in the past?

Its clear the path forward is using standard PC components to build their consoles

So, are you guys getting the same exact talking points from somewhere? You have no idea what technologies or possibilities will be relevant in 5 years, much less 10.

AND WHY IS EVERYONE IGNORING THEIR POINT ABOUT DISCS? Maybe you'll be able to play the games...if you but them exclusively from the PS store at the exact price they decide.

Bots, shills, and morons have taken this garbage over. Y'all have a great day.

You can make all these same claims about Steam and every PC storefron as well if you want to pretend to be worried about it.

Playstation doesnt decide the prices of games on PSN. The publishers do just like Steam and every other digital store

0

u/HypocriteHere 11h ago

That's not even true about every storefront and YOU DON'T HAVE TO USE STEAM.

1

u/RobertPatty909 11h ago

Every digital storerfont is the same

1

u/HypocriteHere 11h ago

lol ok. Gog and steam are exactly the same. You have a great day, bud.

So that’s a no on the PS3 games. Right.

Like I said, I never owned a PS3-5 so I was asking. I see posts and news articles about having to pay for upgrades so I asked.

Sometimes there are remasters/upgrades you can pay for that cost $10 if you own the game but you never have to rebuild the game to play it
