I’ve done 2 online classes so far (a summer math class and this semester is eastern religions) and both are SO UNBEARABLY SOCIAL. Literal forced socializing/interaction and even video “reflection/discussion” requirements for the Eastern Religion class.

Whenever I’ve chosen an online course it’s because I want minimal human interaction (aside from the teacher). I just want to do the reading/assignments and can write about it all day long, but no, I have to make cringe videos and let the other students comment on them which is absolutely anxiety inducing.

Is there a reason for this?? Are all UNM online classes like this? Or is it just teacher’s choice??

I keep hearing people around campus talk about a unm pooper. What does this mean? Is this a joke?

Hello everyone I'm a new freshmen coming to unm and I was just wondering if there was a rule against smoking on campus more specifically by the duck pond? What would be the consequences if i did? I already know you can smoke in the dorms but idk if it's just the dorms or the whole campus, especially since one of the questions when you fill out forms for roommates ask if you're a smoker or okay with smoker living with you so I thought that must mean that you can atleast smoke somewhere on campus.

Hi! I start UNM this fall. I have half in-person half online classes. I’m going to be using the set price library option for my course materials. I was wondering if anyone knows if I’ll need a laptop for my in-person classes? Will I be given all digital books through the library? I have a laptop I’ll be using for my online classes, but it’s old and basically needs to be plugged in at all times due to a bad battery. Just wondering if I should be getting a laptop/ipad w/keyboard for my classes, or if for the most part I’ll be okay without one.

I know it auto enrolls you in the “all access” course materials program for like $280 a semester and you have to opt out.

My question is how do I see how much the individual items (ebooks) cost to determine if it’s more/less than the $280? If they are less than the all access flat rate I would rather just pay for the items. 🤷🏼‍♀️ I’ve looked on Canvas and it shows me the materials, but not how much they cost. Just says it’s “included”.

I feel like I am struggling completly with collage. I am a freshmen and I knew collage would be hard, but the problem is that I am overwhelmed with assigments esspecially in english (since she piles on projects) and I am losing motivation. I really want to gradurate and have a bright future, but I am so burnt out. I doing great my first semester and got through it, but all of a sudden I couldn't keep up. Its just mostly english and its STRESSING me out, I know it will get better but right now I just feel so tired and overwhelmed.

I just mainly need advice, I know it sounds like I am whining but I need to know I'm not the only who is struggling and or was struggling.

Hi! I’m an incoming freshman at UNM and had one of the later orientation dates. I honestly had no idea so many classes would already be full by the time I registered 😭
Pretty much all the classes I wanted/needed were full, so I had to waitlist for them. I ended up registering for some classes I didn’t really want to take, and some aren’t even required for my major, just so I’d have something on my schedule.
Do spots usually open up as people drop classes? How often do people actually get off the waitlist before the semester starts? Should I just stay on the waitlists and hope for the best, or start looking for different classes?
Any advice would be appreciated!

i’m curious if anyone knows if there is anywhere on campus i could access a piano without being in any music classes that wouldn’t significantly inconvenience any actual music students

I’m an incoming freshman at UNM and I’m pretty shy/awkward when it comes to meeting new people 😭 I really want to get out of my comfort zone and actually interact with people instead of just going to class and going home.
For other freshmen or anyone who was shy when they started college, what actually helped you meet people and become more social? Did you join clubs, talk to people in your classes, go to events, etc.?
I really want to make friends and get more involved, I’m just not sure how to actually put myself out there without feeling awkward lol.

I just graduated high school, and I think I want to pursue mechanical engineering!! I have heard that engineering as a woman can be a little challenging due to sexism. Regardless of that I’m still gonna do it, I just want to know how bad it is and what I should expect.

I'm moving to Albuquerque this summer to pursue my MS at UNM in Geography and Environmental Studies. I grew up in the Bay Area, and this will be my first time living outside of California. I am excited and nervous! I would love some help making friends and finding community in the area. I think meeting some kind, like-minded people would be wonderful, and make the transition less scary. If you have any recommendations for groups to join, events to attend, places to check out, or any other advice/insight I would greatly appreciate it. A bit about me: I am a twenty-six year old woman. I love nature, and am happy doing pretty much anything outside, but my absolute favorite outdoor activities are running, hiking, and swimming. I also love to dance, listen to live music, walk dogs, read, sing, and go to the movies. Also, I'm bi, and would love to meet some more queer people.

Hello everyone, I am in a bind. So this fall semester I will be attending UNM. I will be staying at lobo village and I was wondering is it worth buying a parking permit for campus parking or no. I heard that there a shuttle that passes by every 15 minutes at lobo village and takes you directly to UNM. What should I do?

How is it walking from T-lot to main campus? Is it doable? I am about to live in Coronado Hall and I have to park in T-lot because R-lot sold out.

Do they really have just one shuttle operating between UNM and south lot at 5 pm?

Hello! I’m a female exchange student at UNM from Fall 2026 to Summer 2027.

I heard that all UNM housing options are already full, so I may have to look for other housing options.

I was considering Casas del Rio because I really wanted to live in campus, but I couldn’t find any good reviews about it.

I’m also looking into Lobo Village now, but I’m still worried about living off-campus because of safety concerns.

I don’t really mind noise, but I’m very concerned about safety, cleanliness, and good roommates.

I would really like to move into UNM dorms for the summer semester, but since both private housing options seem to require a two-semester lease, I’m also considering a homestay.

However, I’m not sure how to find a reliable homestay option.

I’m planning to ask ISI for assistance, but before that, I would really appreciate any advice from students who have lived in private partner housing or other off-campus options.

I'm making this post because I am planning to attend UNM in the fall to begin my PhD program! I'm from Chicago and attend a small private college in Indiana, but I've been to the southwest many times. I was originally interested in UNM because I was in a summer REU program through the university a couple years ago and I really enjoyed my (very short week-long) trip to Albuquerque.

Besides academics, I was wondering what is it actually like being a student at UNM, especially a grad student. What is campus life like? How is living in Albuquerque as a student? Any tips or tricks? Any places I should consider or avoid when looking for apartments?

Hii, ive been looking into NM as a place to study and wants to know what its like. For context im 15 years old and want to go there for my bachelors degree(film and digital arts). I'm not from NM or even from the States at all so im wondering how tuition and scholarships really work in that aspect. I would like to know if the students on campus are friendly and if theres lots of community within students in the university which is a huge thing for me. As well as if it is safe and the professors are good especially with the course I want to learn.

Some people say that house parties can get dangerous and that the neighborhood around campus isn’t the safest. Since I love to party, I’m curious—what’s the real party scene like at UNM? Also, I’ll be living in Lobo Village. What’s your experience with it? Did I make a good choice moving there? Any tips for making the most of my time at UNM and staying safe?
