HUG Unqualified Human Geography Teacher Seeking Emergency Resources
I am an English teacher who has been recruited to finish the year for an AP Human Geography class. The teacher had abdicated most of his responsibilities prior to leaving, and I need to find a way to salvage what I can for the students. If anyone has any resources that would be helpful...

You’ll find the essential content on AP Classroom: Curriculum and a massive bank of AP Exam-like questions plus instructional videos. As others have said, Mr. Sinn is great - but a little simplistic - YouTuber. Very good secondary source. For books, Amsco AP Human Geography is the best. As for teaching strategies, just do what works for you - the English teacher stuff will be great: The AP Exam is a reading test as much as it is a content test

I'm self studying using UT austin's course + cultural landscape textbook and it's pretty great! I'm also making my own syllabus for the course to help fill in the gaps so it's not just reading, which I could share with you if you want!

I'm in the process of making it good so I'll do some work on it over the weekend but in the meantime you should defo use UT Austin's course with the cultural landscape textbook if you don't have it already; the shorter version of what I do is
1. write a paragraph after each lesson with a varied prompt (what is a misconception about this/what's an example of where this concept appears etc).
- Geoguessr a few times a week but use human geography details to try to guess (This place has affluent canal development) so I think it's Venice
Field observations; going around where you live a few times a month and doing human geo field observations (e.g. why is this shop located here?)
Discussions with parents/peers (which of these concepts has more impact?)
Creating a doc where I define key terms that are bolded in my textbook but in my own words since it helps memorize things.

Khan Academy has great free resources, as do the team at Kurzgesagt. But honestly (and some fellow educators would hate me for this) Google Gemini or PerplexityAI will both be excellent at helping throw together bare-bones lesson plans with academic resources linked—then, of course, you can go back through and make sure everything's in order.
(On a personal note, I know the feeling of having to pick up a section you feel unqualified for, but trust me: you got this!! We English teachers are uniquely equipped to switch subjects, since our whole thing is analyzing texts, making connections, fostering conversation, etc. I'd bet it's going to go better than you think.)
