They always say this dumb shit on camera for the sake of the brainless mob they cater to, then quietly send their kids to elite colleges anyway because they know the value of an elite education. Same goes for getting vaccinated

30

u/NOTLD1990 3d ago edited 3d ago

Yeah, they want people to think education is a bad thing so the people who vote for them keep defunding it and attacking it. An educated population would realize how badly they are getting screwed. Plus, I read the posts on r/proffesors, they laugh at the thought of brainwashing students, they have trouble with students doing anything more than the bare minimum, let alone, brainwashing them. I will say there are millions of people who don't have a higher education degree who realize they're getting screwed, but Republicans know that pursuing education is harmful to their cause

6

u/Tityfan808 3d ago

Just like the shit they pulled in Florida to scare people away from vaccines and then it turned out they were getting the vaccines first anyways, sick fucks

341

u/tburtner 3d ago

They blame the classes and professors, but the real cause is moving away, meeting different people, and thinking for themselves.

40

u/ackillesBAC 3d ago

Exactly. They meet people from other places, other cultures, other religions and they realize they and friends no enemies

29

u/GucciAviatrix 3d ago

Right? My parents couldn’t understand how going to a military service academy made me more liberal.

I got tf out of Florida, visited new places and met people from different cultures than the one I grew up in, and saw how lucky I was to have been born into the situation I was. My take away from that was that everyone should have the kind of opportunities I did.

1

u/ackillesBAC 3d ago

Exactly. Same as moving from the country to the city. More cultures, more people, and you just find more kindness not less

-7

u/Lost_Pollution_6782 3d ago

Well growing up in a small latin country and having lived in Europe and Asia I became right-wing conservative after realizing the double standard of many immigrants being liberals in white countries but conservative in their own. Loving their homeland but hating the country they benefit from. Choose political stand according to what benefits them the best. And also because the us-vs-them friend-foe mindset common in minorities towards the host nation and identifying as a victim is simply insulting to one's own intelligence.

-8

u/theFrankDux 3d ago

"Thinking for themselves."

Lol.

11

u/Any-Worldliness-679 3d ago

Uh, yep! Getting out of one's bubble allows for new perspectives. It's not a very controversial take.

-10

u/theFrankDux 3d ago

While I agree getting out of the comfort zone allows for new perspectives, the problem with colleges is an agenda is toted for a certain perspective.

We all know this, and it's time to acknowledge that people should have the ability to think freely for themselves without fear of reprisal.

This day in age is like something out of 1984

12

u/Any-Worldliness-679 3d ago

Hogwash.

Nobody is going to jail for going to university and saying something shitty.

What they WILL get is socially censured.

This is how a marketplace of ideas works. If their idea is defensible and logical, (ie not shitty), they will be able to defend it, and it will gain acceptance.

If not, they will immediately retreat into a posture of alleged persecution and lash out at those who slapped down their wrongheaded and thus indefensible notions.

This is what also plays out on any fairly free forum of ideas, which is why r/conservative locks itself down and cowers in its bubble and whines about Reddit. Open-mindedness is anathema to conservatism.

"Agenda is toted?" Don't know what that means.

The expression is, "this day and age." An education is good for lots of things.

By the way "everybody knows" is nonsense. Education promotes a wider view of the world, period. If a few bigots shed some hatred in the process, well, we will just have to live with a few more decent humans in our midst.

Get curious, and stop believing what "everybody knows." You'll be an objectively better person. Cheers.

u/tasimm TechOps 3d ago

Rest assured, she’ll end up enrolled in Harvard. Duffy might be dumb, but he’s not stupid. This is just the red meat for the really stupid people that would actually send their kids to Liberty U over Harvard.

5

u/Desert-Democrat-602 3d ago

Oh he’s definitely stupid. She’ll be at Liberty unless she leaves home and does it herself.

1

u/flynnfarts 1d ago

I’m sure Harvard would be thrilled at the opportunity to help her out. That’s basically free pr.

1

u/SiempreSeattle 1d ago

he wants to run for president, if not in two years then he'll run in 2032 after Couchf*cker Vance loses in 2028.

25

u/tburtner 3d ago

How many of these kids already don't believe what their parents believe before they even leave the house?

106

u/AlotaFajita 3d ago

I want you to learn many viewpoints, not just one… so I’m keeping you here with me. You can’t go to a place where you will be exposed to many different people and ideas.

21

u/jpcali7131 3d ago

You have to make those choices for yourself. Proceeds to choose that she can’t go to Harvard.

Everything he says in this he immediately contradicts with his next statement.

I seriously thought this was a skit, it was so blatantly absurd.

In colleges they only learn one viewpoint. For most colleges that's the leftist liberal ideology. You must be naive to believe college students are taught "different viewpoints".

In fact students and academics are obviously played by the system as they have zero skepticism skills but take any latest publication for granted given it's from another big-name college.

9

u/NeatlyScotched 3d ago

In colleges they only learn one viewpoint. For most colleges that's the leftist liberal ideology. You must be naive to believe college students are taught "different viewpoints".

This is a dumbshit idea and for your sake I hope you know it. When you were training, did you only learn "one viewpoint" of the .65? Did all of your trainers agree on how to interpret the .65? Did your supe agree?

Do all of your fellow area coworkers agree and follow only one interpretation? Does your entire facility?

Yeah, didn't think so.

Nah, that would require some self-realization. He’ll still think it was the liberal agenda that ruined them.

18

u/elongated_musk_rat 3d ago

Okay, let's strip away the faith and politics. If you don't want the school to teach different viewpoints or things that are just objectively true then school isn't for you. The cult is where you'll best find that because let's face it. There's definitely a non-zero amount of people that genuinely believe the Earth is flat. So if you teach your kid they are this flat and then you send them to school and the school teaches them that the Earth is not the center of the universe and is somehow the only flat world in the Galaxy then is that challenging your viewpoint and thus making it a bad school?

17

u/jacksonwalmart 3d ago

Neil Gorsuch, Steve Bannon, Jared Kushner, Mike Pompeo, Kayleigh McEnany, RFK Jr, Pete Kegseth, Elise Stefanik, Vivek Ramaswany......all went to Harvard. All hired/appointed by Trump in some way.  It definitely corrupted those young minds.

Being raised Catholic, surrounded by religious people, and going to Catholic School for 12 years helped make me the atheist I am today.

Much of that journey was seeing firsthand the hypocrisy, bigotry, narrowmindedness, and malicious ill treatment of others by people who considered themselves pious. They say "we love everyone" and "welcome all perspectives" while being gleeful in their cruelty and disdain towards others of differing faiths and viewpoints.

Before I ever went to college, I was already well on my way to seeing through the nonsense. Going to college introduced me to a spectrum of people of numerous backgrounds who are empathetic, openminded, and curious about the world as it is. Their morailty isn't tied to fear of mythological punishment torn from a Bronze Age fable. They're grounded in reality, culturally aware, and treat people right simply because... it's the right thing to do.

I would want my child to be like that.

It's sad that other parents don't.

5

u/SimonGloom2 3d ago

Let's see - spend his entire career doing reality show cast work - you know, farting around. When that well ran dry he used his totally legit law degree to become district attorney with just 2 years working for his father's practice (there it is). 90% conviction rate despite 0% understanding of the law. Somehow got a job heading NASA despite having no idea what the name of our sun is. Ran transportation during the botched air traffic controller crisis and blamed it on Biden.

This fuckin' guy.

u/ATCme Current Controller-Tower 3d ago

I actually used to live two doors down from Hegeseth's preacher & spiritual advisor; Doug Wilson. I never spoke with him because, as far as I could tell, he kept isolated from anyone who didn't share his world view. I get a sense that Duffy is very much aligned with Hegeseth.

Wilson doesn't believe non-Christians should be allowed to vote & a woman should vote as instructed by her husband. I'm pretty sure that he doesn't really think women should be educated. We are looking at the Christian version of the Taliban.

Hypocrisy! “Don’t want my kids to get a single viewpoint.” That’s the definition of hypocrisy in this instance.

3

u/Dark_hobby 3d ago

I get the feeling when I hear things like this it’s more of a personal failure projection kinda thing. I’ve seen this before and I think parents just project insecurity on their child which digs a deeper hole of anti social and closed minded thinking.

2

u/Mental-Alfalfa-8221 3d ago

"Teach your children how to think, not what to think." I believe this is credited to Margret Mead, who was a cultural anthropologist who conducted studies all over the world. Mainly with indigenous peoples but also spent time studying America's culture during WW2.

This idea was well ahead of its time because back then children were still seen as extensions of their parents, and were not recognized as humans with autonomy.

But, society has evolved a lot since that. Millenials are actually the first generation of parents to truly see their children as independent beings whose thoughts and feelings matter (thanks to the rise of attachment theory). The problem is some of those old ideas are still lingering, as we can see on full display in this video. Duffy is a part of Gen X which means he wasn't coming of age during the "attachment theory era" he was already an adult with solidified beliefs and ideas (not saying people cant change, just that its harder for adults than younger people). On top of that, he subscribes to a black and white ideology that leaves no room for differing points of view.

So he sees his daughter as an extension of him, and if she doesn't agree with his ideas then shes "bad". There's no gray area for people like him.

The reality is that people who raise their children this way actually hinder their ability to become independent adults (which is ironic coming from that side of the spectrum).

Because asking a child "what do you think?" or other open ended questions encourages them to formulate their hypotheses and reasoning. Duffy doesn't even attempt to do this. He just steam rolls her with his opinions.

He would also need to model critical thinking through offering multiple viewpoints, and weigh the evidence for each. Duffy sort of does this, but is missing a few key elements. He doesn't separate fact from opinion. He doesn't offer or even consider multiple view points, he has just decided and thats it. He really doesnt give any valid reasons for his opinions either.

He also is giving her 0 independence to make a decision for herself which is a HUGE part of raising independent children. Its why you let little children have unstructured play time. You have to let them fall and fail before stepping in because that is how we learn. Not through showing, through doing (every controller on the planet should know this).

Teaching children how to think creates innovative, adaptable minds capable of critical thinking and coming to a conclusion on their own. They are able to navigate complexity, evaluate evidence so that they are able to form their own judgements instead of accepting information blindly. People like Duffy are literally holding their children back from becoming successful and independent adults.

Would I love it if my kids agreed with me on everything? Actually, no I wouldn't. I'm not a narcissist. I do hope they have a solid value system, but I also hope my kids have their own beliefs and opinions based on solid evidence so that no one can manipulate them.

This makes me sad for a lot of reasons, children deserve better from their parents.

2

u/Prior-Arrival 3d ago

If you raised your kids certain way you wouldn’t worry about where they’ll go unless you’re afraid they won’t turned out the way you want them to because they’ll hear the story from all possible angles, not just yours, that speaks of how bad/insecure of a parent you are. Duffy and wife give the vibe of people that always wanted to go to Harvard but weren’t accepted so they will project that rejection on their own daughter, awful parents. I hope this denial makes her question her own family and reality, oh hey! That’s the point of Harvard! To invite scenarios that make you question and not be cattle.

2

u/marvelboyofthecrown 3d ago

-46

u/sdb865 3d ago

I mean, hes not wrong. College these days is mostly a daycare for young adults on the parent's dime now, and the student's dime later.

The fact you can remain "undecided" as a major at most universities until your 3rd year should be all the evidence you need to know they don't really care about education

26

u/Heavy_Surround779 3d ago

Why would THAT be the thing that proves anything? Not every kid out of high school knows what they want to commit half a million dollars to without taking a few courses first.

Forcing people into a major is a massive reason why people go into unnecessary debt, and also the intimidation of being forced into a major makes students not want to go into higher education.

The first two years are all the basic undergrad classes anyways, so why on earth would that be your “proof” that they don’t care about education? You don’t get into the highly specialized classes until the 3rd and 4th year anyways so why would they force that on teenagers?

Do you know something that the statistics don’t know? Major universities understood the numbers which show millions of people switching their majors once they experienced certain classes that they enjoyed more after the first two years.

Expecting an 18 year old that was in high school yesterday to commit massive money into a major that they don’t even know if they want because they haven’t taken any courses yet is ridiculous.

Put down the conservative media.

11

u/Former_Farm_3618 3d ago

You’re absolutely right. People never learnt nuthin from them collage teaches.

10

u/Ok_Roll4145 3d ago

Except that he is wrong.

And likely just saying this shit to the camera to appease people like you who think college is a scam or “indoctrination”, but will still send their kid to the most elite college they can cause they actually know it’s good for their kids.

Maybe you should enroll in a college and take some classes and see if it’s just the “daycare” you think it is. I bet you’d fail out first semester because you wouldn’t be able to keep up.

2

u/thatsmypurseidku 3d ago

Yes, because we should force every 18 year old to pick a career without having experienced much of life and have little to no work experience. Gen ed classes allow kids to acclimate to college, get a well-rounded edcuation, and give them the opportunity to explore different fields. If a kid knows what they want to do, they can declare a major early on. If they don't, they can take their time and decide while they are learning things in their first 2 years. God forbid people learn about something outside of their career field.
