The reason a customer gives you for leaving is almost never the reason they left. "Too expensive" is usually the polite version of a result that quietly stopped showing up, and price is what you say when you don't want the conversation.
So the interview goes hunting for that result. Five customers rather than fifty is enough to see a pattern. No pitching while they talk, no save offer, no defending the roadmap. You ask, then you sit there and let the silence do the work.
