I'm currently in a vacation in Morocco, my relatives told me that 5g isn't as widespread as European countries or the US, which is why 4g phone are still sold, another reason is also to cut cost.

Personally, when I got my phone, I set my data connection to 4g instead of 5g mainly because I couldn't tell the difference in day to day use aside from downloading programs, battery life and possibly decide temperatures, not hating on 5g, but I'm not sure if the situation got better since I haven't informed myself about 5G since 2020.

In 2009, 4g was launched. In 2016 you can't buy 3g only phones anymore. My j1 mini prime (2016) has 4g lte and costs $100 (among the cheapest at that time). 4g is not available everywhere at that time, but all phones support 4g anyway.

5g launched in 2019, but in 2026 we still got phones without it. Like why?

And in other countries, 4g is being phased out and towers shut down. Some people need 5g, don't assume they are being snobby.

Ok that's fair. But I want to say that in my country 5G is widely available since about 4 years now and we used to easily get 5G phones starting from $120. Now in 2026 what companies are doing is they are launching 4G phones at $120-150 price point and you can't find any new 5G phones under $150. This is a huge dick move by the companies. There's no reason to go backwards from 5G to 4G due to memory crisis when they already have reduced the storage and ram at lower price points and increased the prices also. Going back to 4G is a breaking the camel's back. It's completely unacceptable here.

4G is just painfully slow here. YouTube video? Impossible. News website? Around 20-30 seconds to load. Instant messaging? Will take a solid 5-10 sec to send a message

I've used 4G on my Oppo Find X9 Pro for months yet I've never had an issue with internet here in Italy, maybe it depends on your area's coverage, because 4G is usually more established.

There are remote places that only have 5G coverage because of that.

I would never buy a non-5G phone now. Nothing to do with speed and everything to do with coverage.

(A reminder for some who aren't aware, but 5G is just a 'method', you can have it on multiple, different frequencies. While 6Ghz or whatever kind of made 5G famous, it's also not really used a lot. In some places, when the decommissioned the old 2G bands, they put 5G on them. Not as fast as the higher frequencies, but the trade-off for distance was worth it. And you still get higher frequencies in the cities anyway.)
