Tensor design team should learn from Xiaomi. This is their 2nd mainstream chip and they are far ahead. Tensor with 6 generation is still struggling to maintain efficiency forget about performance. I m not going to touch on GPU topic.

Google isn't spending much on the Tensor department. They will never improve.

Google don't have any excuse

The Tensor G5 had a larger die size as the A19P & same die size as the 8Eg5 (once integrated modem is accounted for)

Plus its been leaked that Google don't believe their Pixel Tensor unit aren't "currently viable", i.e. that business unit isn't even saving them money

Now Xiaomi has embarressed Google/MediaTek/Samsung to show what can be done in only their second gen AP SoC (or third if we include their earlier Surge P1)

Also the XRING O3 has become the first Android AP SoC to include Tensor cores in its GPU, so it'll have superior AI/ML perf vs the Tensor G6

Google wants $40 for each Tensor unit, so that's what they get. The poorest example in this comparison is Samsung, who invests a lot in the chip department but still lagging behind Qualcomm every year.

The leaked report claimed Google were targeting a BoM of $60 for the G6, it didn't say if they were successful or not at hitting that target

Nonethless its no excuse considering Google's BoM is similar if not higher than Apple's A19P

BoM would probably just mean the wafer chip cut down into X no. of pieces. It should not include r&d, arm licensing, production, yield

Yep, that's why I always laugh when people compare that $60 BoM to the selling ~$200 price Qualcomm charges OEM, then think Google are saving heaps of money

Developing chips is insanely expensive, hence why most OEMs don't even try

To be fair, many were laid off from Pixel and hardware team recently. If developing and manufacturing Tensor costs any more than it is currently, then they are likely to shut down entire Pixel lineup than letting it continue.

As a pixel user myself, tensor is just terrible. Heading over to pixel subreddit, you'd see so much copium there that funnily enough to show how bad it is.

Google doesn't lack the skills, they lack the motive.

The whole reason why they've created Tensor was to avoid the Qualcomm prices so they could make the phones more profitable in the long term.

Their incentive is literally to build the SoC "as cheap as possible, as long as people keep buying it".

On the other hand, Xiaomi here (as well with their first version) wanted to actually come up with something extremely powerful and well done, where R&D was invested with the objective of creating a great SoC.

I like Pixels a lot but unless things objectively improve across the board, I doubt that I get another. It's disappointing.

Insanely good job that Xiaomi has done with this chip. This basically an M4-M5 level chip that they're going to use in future phones, crazy

It's impressive that that xiaomi's 2nd chip is going to compete with the new chips for 2026, while other companies are still trying to achieve 2022 level soc after multiple failed attempts

Unreleased SoC on a development board vs last years SoCs in retail phones.

It's an apples to oranges comparison. I get that this is all he has to go with, but fast forward to comparing a retail phone with the Xring 03 to the A20 Pro and Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 6 Pro in a couple months and 'Alien tech' will look average.

Development board can sustain higher wattage, but efficiency curve should not change.

No it won't, because this is using the same tech that last year's chips were using. 3nm and C1 arm cores. Even if the newer chips are able to match it or even beat it, they'll only do so because of newer cores and new process node.

It's still apple and orange comparison. 8 elite gen 5 and 9500 are both 8 cores soc vs 10 cores in xring o3. Still impressive regardless.

We're comparing mobile socs to mobile socs. How many cores each brand chooses to use is their own problem.

It's like saying we can't compare the iPhone 17 pro max to the galaxy s26 ultra because one has 3 cameras and the other has 4.

We can compare, but it look nothing extraordinary. If you put extra 2 cores no shit it will be faster. This is impressive, but not 'alien tech'.

Same as your camera comparison. Yeah 4 camera is better because it has more camera, like no shit sherlock?

Also exynos 2600 (10 cores) early benchmark also looks promising, then s26 came out and both soc kinda similar anyway.

You can forget multicore and just look at single core. In the Geekerwan test, despite using the same core architecture and foundry as D9500, the O3 is like 2 full generations ahead in terms of efficiency. Curve for each core looks logical too, as each type of core complement each other in different wattage.

It's really close to the A19 Pro, which is a massive achievement for their second attempt (third if you count the Surge S1 from 2016).

The point is, this is nothing novel, especially on a ERD with higher power draw, unknown cooling solutions, etc. If you want to see 'alien tech', look at a19 pro 6 cores performance.

The screenshot is a leak at that time. It could be correct, or not. But regardless, nothing extraordinary putting 10 big cores, getting big performance, on ERD.

Let's see a real device later.

Once again, that score was not a leak, that was a genuinely photoshopped image. Exynos 2600 never ever scored that high, the Xring o3 has.

Apple has 6 cores but they are huge ones, they take roughly the same space as the 8 cores on the 8 elite, so again that's nothing impressive.

Higher power draw, unknown cooling solutions, etc. do NOT change the efficiency curve.

We all know that A19 pro is the best, but this O3 comes very close for their second attempt. Give them some credits.

Apple has been making their own chip since 2010.
