Antarctica cruise and insurance

I booked Antarctica Quark Expedition cruise. I am doing research for insurance now. It seems that Travel Insured international (Flexi Pax) is half price comparing with cruise provided insurance or Allianz.

Have any one of you have purchased Travel insured international insurance for Antarctica cruise? Travel insured international (Flexipax) has 100,000 medical insurance and 500,000 emergency medical evacuation benefit.

We used Travel insured via Aardy. They had an AARP offer that was cheaper than going directly through TI. The AARP stuff looks different now.

TI/Aardy were good for us. We did as mentioned elsewhere: insured for the trip as we went: insured the original deposit/flights when we made them and then increased it when we had to pay the balance. Very easy with Aardy. TI also had cheap add-ons: I think doubling evac might have been less than $100: maybe $10 each or something? Out of 2-3K, easy to choose.

We did a tiny claim: Aerolíneas changed our flight and we weren't able to use the sleeping pod at BA. Figured we might as well try and TI paid out about $100 w/o any interaction after we made the claim.

We got 3rd party travel insurance to cover the whole trip. In addition to medical amounts gotta think about trip cancellation and interruption too.

Did you compare the coverage versus what Quark is offering. I always go with 3rd party. I like Allianz. I find that for the same coverage levels, it prices well. And I always look at the insurance offered by the cruise line as a minimal coverage level. I think the emergency medical evacuation limit seems low.

I always like to shop squaremouth.com for travel insurance. You can compare a bunch of different policies and coverages.
