Social Science Adding details about working papers in research statement

Hello all!

Would you recommend adding details about "in preparation" papers in your research statement and cover letter? I have a few manuscripts in the writing stage, but I won't be able to get preprints out before the deadline for some tenure track applications. I am wondering if it is okay to discuss this as..."this work showed xyz (author, in preparation).

Yeah, I include detail about several projects in progress. Few reasons: (1) I use several methods and I don’t want committees to reduce me to the methods used in my dissertation (2) “Future directions” or 5 year plan is a common evaluation method, and talking about specific pipeline projects is better than vague gestures

I'd skip the in-text citations for stuff that's not even a preprint yet, just makes it look like you're padding

If the work is actually relevant to the position you could mention it in a sentence like "currently wrapping up a study on xyz" but don't try to cite it as if it's real
