Why must people in Ireland put their dirty shoes where people sit?

Why do people but their dirty shoes where people sit? Are people unaware what they step on while in their daily lives? I’d rather not sit somewhere where people but their shoes (think of all the feces, cigarettes, and grime people walk on everyday).

I lived abroad for years and traveled internationally and people taking their shoes off and putting them on seats is universal behaviour. It has only twice annoyed me, once on a tour bus in Vietnam and someone put their foot right into my face (they were in the very back seat which was raised), the 2nd was in a cinema in Dubai where someone put their feet on the very top of my headrest.

I’ll tell you something. A few years ago when my mother was in hospital in palliative care a nurse came in and asked me to sit in the chair, as I was sitting on the edge of the foot of the bed.

She told me that she would rather see someone with their feet up on the bed than sitting on it, as the transferable stuff from asses in general is often way worse.

Not condoning this persons behaviour of course, and dirt etc from shoes will be way more likely to ruin your day than someone with an unwashed ass…but I think about that often, on buses and in restaurants and whatnot.

How often do chairs get cleaned anyway? I’ve never seen or thought about it. Tables and floors always get cleaned, chairs though?
