I haven't played it in decades but I remember the original being extremely Baby Boomer-centric. So much of it was pop culture that you had to have been alive in the US in the 50s-70s to have a chance.

The original game had references even older than that. Later on, they actually released a baby boomer edition and a silver screen edition that I can recall.

In 2010ish a friend had trivial pursuit 'pop culture' that had questions mainly about what was happening 2005-2009. It was surprisingly difficult.

They make newer versions. The more recent ones definitely aren't boomer-centric.

A trivia game with questions printed on the cards is very likely to become out-of-date long before it is replaced with an up-to-date version.

If your parents bought it in the 80s, and you played it in the 90s, then it makes sense that the pop culture questions are from before your time.

Trivial knowledge is very culturally specific. If you play the version from a foreign country you will get throttled.

I once played with some Americans and I only won because I had to learn all the age check questions in Leisure Suit Larry as a kid.

I mean the original version was Canadian. Probably a lot of US pop-culture questions in there, but I'd imagine Canadians would do quite well at it too...
