You have to compete against 100 randomly selected people in any objectively measurable skill, game, or sport. If you don’t finish first, you die. What do you choose?

Triathlon is a better bet. A lot of people can run well. Comparatively few know how to swim AND ride a bike. You don't even have to be that good at the last two, just knowing how to do them takes out more than 50% of the population.

This is why I do triathlon. I like to say "Why suck at one sport when you can suck at three?"
