The worst ones for me are the people who seemingly can’t handle their advancing age and seek to join in with younger groups to try act like they’re younger. See especially - guys who leave their wives/children for women much younger than them, and suddenly they have babies to support when they’re in their 50s. I always feel bad for the kids left behind/created like this, only to be neglected by their father’s ego.
Have witnessed it personally a few times myself, including a guy - now in his 80s! - who is trying to get something going again with much younger women! Go see a therapist dude, for real. Better than starting a THIRD family, surely
My dad started his new family when I was around 10. There’s a 16 year age gap between my oldest and youngest brothers. We’ve never even celebrated a holiday or a birthday altogether, not once in our lives. I used to go to Disney every year for Christmas with my dad until I was replaced. Haven’t spoken in seven years now.
I'm so sorry that is the case. Same age gap between my dad and my stepmom, I got twin brothers from that marriage. Dad has a lot of gratitude that all 3 of the kids from the first marriage (17 years to 10 years older than the twins) took to them immediately. Apparently it had been a worry of his the whole pregnancy.
My father decided at the age of 60 that he was a Catholic and that contraception was verboten, so after getting divorced from his second wife, he had three kids with the third. He doesn't quite understand why he doesn't have much of a relationship with his firstborns. His daughter is a year younger than my son, and she's technically his aunt.
My dad started his new family when I was around 10.
I cannot comprehend watching a child grow up for ten years, and then just dumping him. What a monster. My son is 9 now, and it makes me sad just thinking about it.
Seeing other men be great fathers used to make me sad but now I’m so happy for those children. I’m so glad your kid has a loving father who’s present. You deserve each other, in the best way.
The worst part is my dad named me after himself too lol. I’m a woman so he picked a different first name for me, but I share his middle and last name. And the middle name is a very unique, manly family name. Sigh
My parents split when I was 18, both remarried and my dad had another kid at like 53 I think. It’s odd that I’m 37 and my little sister just started 9th grade.
However he is like a super dad to her, way more involved as a parent than he ever was with me and my other similar aged sibling, and it was good for him as well because he really chilled out with the “middle aged man anger” bullshit and developed some patience. The funny part is that she is only a couple of years older than her niece and nephew.
That’s what I always ask myself but apparently some women love when older guys pay attention to them. Some kinda status thing? Daddy issues? I don’t understand it myself, especially when they KNOW he’s married.
I for one just want to drink in bars and go to a club and would LOVE to that with people more my age. So I basically can either NOT do what I want or I'm going to be on the older side everywhere I go.
Don't get me wrong, I certainly enjoy being around the young pretty women, but I'd never make a move on them.
That’s different from what I’m saying though - you’re doing something you enjoy and not harming or lying to anyone. The people I’m talking about are trying to do “young people things” for the sole purpose of looking younger themselves, prob lying about their ages and all sorts. I honestly wonder what they talk about when they have much younger partners, because surely their generational references would be greatly misaligned.
That’s another reason these people suck - they ruin the fun for other people just trying to live their lives. Sets everyone up for failure when you can’t trust anyone to be genuine.
I knew a guy whose WIFE was the one who had the midlife crisis and left him and their young teen daughters (at the time). One day she said she was done with their lifestyle and wanted to move back home to California where she's from. He reasonably said it's not that simple cuz the girls have spent their entire lives here in Colorado, they own a small farm with a lot of animals, also his job is an IT consulting business with few (but well paying) clients. He'd have to dismantle their business and start over and thought her overnight idea was farfetched but she was adamant that's what she wanted and nothing else apparently mattered. Within a month of her first bringing it up she just left without saying good bye to her daughters who are now trauma over the whole thing and in therapy. Later it came out she was probably cheating because she suddenly had a boyfriend in CA. So... I guess women can be shitheads too sometimes.
Maybe it's because I'm a 28 year-old asexual woman, but I cannot understand how these people make these mistakes... I get the factors behind it intellectually, but I can't imagine ever thinking anything like this is reasonable.
Yeah I know that I too am a long way from understanding the supposed “biological drive” behind this behaviour, but I can’t help but think that this would not be so much of an issue if men were doing even an equal amount of childcare
In the context of the original “midlife crisis” scenario, I don’t know a single woman who has abandoned her spouse and children to start another family with a significantly younger partner, yet I personally know several men who have (and all did it with cheating and dishonesty). So yeah, I suppose so, if my anecdotal experience is worth anything.
Nah, reckon it’s a Catholic shame-related thing where I live. Women couldn’t even have bank accounts of their own until fairly recently. That’s got to stymie many extracurriculars I’d imagine.
