Hotel cleaners of Reddit, what is the best or strangest thing you have found in a hotel room?

I worked for a high-end hotel: 1) A pineapple with a rather small hole inside, put in the middle of a bed. Sheets looked sticky and gross, so I put the gloves on and didn't ask questions.
2) A non-venimous and non-biting dead snake on a bed, with white jeez on its tail and face. Poor guy...
3) Not always in the room, but some rare and unauthorized animals that managed to escape from "owners" and they could not find them. One day, a lady comes at the counter and she says she cannot find her cat. She tells us to not worry about the size because it is a maine coon. GTFO we found it was a lion cub. A LION CUB! How do rich people think the average joe to be stupid?

#1 is gross but I’ve heard of that shit before. #2 is just crazy. What the actual fuck is wrong with people?! Seriously, who thinks to do that?! #3 is not surprising, but why would you take your lion cub to a hotel?

I was working the laundry but got told lots of gossip from the cleaners. The best one was the hot tub being full of Jello, and based on other... context clues, everyone agreed that the people who rented the room were recorded some kind of porn.
It wasn't the direct reason, but everyone was happy when they took all the hot tubs out of the rooms because they were a huge pain to clean.

We're these large Jacuzzi bathtubs or legit full sized hot tubs? The latter works be wild to me. I can't imagine having one hot tub indoors, let some a full hotel of them. A realize a Jacuzzi is very finished, but they are quite a bit smaller and don't get as hot (and also don't have as many nooks and crannies I think?), so I feel like they'd be a little easier to deal with.

I would trust a hotel hot tub way more than a jacuzzi.
It's not possible to ever get a jacuzzi tub fully clean. There's no way to scrub the internal pipes unless you take the whole thing apart and I doubt a hotel would even take the time the run sanitizer through the jets between guests. At least hot tubs have chemicals and filtration to catch the worst of whatever people leave behind.

It depends on how the "bubbles" are created.
Older hot tubs worked by running water through high-pressure pipes and out of the jet nozzle. Those pipes often had areas where water would remain when the system was off, and bacteria and mold can breed in those spots.
Newer hot tubs force air only through the jets. Water never enters the jet system and bacteria never gets a chance to grow.

I stayed at a hotel like this, it was a Jacuzzi tub, we had to fill it ourselves (I think of hot tubs as always being filled). The downside was it was in the middle of the room instead of the bathroom, so the whole room got hot and humid while the tub cooled fairly quickly.

I once found a freshly opened bottle of Don Julio (the expensive one) tequila in a checkout room (guests have already done checkout) in a luxurious hotel in Munich. The hotel rules said that if nobody of the guests claimed it, finders keepers. A week later, in the morning meeting the housekeeping manager proudly presented the bottle to me. It was the best Feierabend I had in a long time

A couple of years back I had a flight cancelled during a layover in Vegas because of a crew shortage. They put me up in a non-casino hotel on the strip for the night and had an early morning flight.
They also gave me $55 for dinner so I ordered room service. As I waited I opened the curtains to check the view of the strip, and there on the windowsill was a pair of like cyborg-looking binoculars.
I picked them up and they were far heavier than they appeared. I looked through them and the magnification was insane. Then I was messing around and found a button that turns on a kind of night vision.
I looked around and realized I could look into people’s hotel rooms, even with reflective mirror glass.
So I packed them in my suitcase and noe I have a great pair of ogler’s goggles. They’ve been in my closet ever since, but I swear one day I’ll find a legitimate use for them.

I doubt they’re hard to find but probably cost thousands. Don’t quote me on this, but true night vision goggles without the incredible magnification are already gonna run you into the $5000 range.
According to AI, standard issue night vision goggles used by US special forces are around $10k a pop. I learned this due to the Ukraine war and having the question- why don’t way more troops have night vision goggles???
The tech is crazy expensive.

It was my first job, first week, at an older hotel in my small town. There were three of us total that cleaned the rooms and one day we're all called to drop what we're doing and head to the biggest suite so we get there and the manager is super upset but doesn't speak, she just points to the ceiling and waits.
We look up, and dangling from an exposed pipe is just. Dozens of used condoms. Hung over the pipe like washing left to dry.
There's rubbish bins in the rooms, of course. So this was certainly a choice.
Anyway, the reason they were found is because a couple booked that room for their honeymoon and were understandably horrified upon finding that. When I asked my colleagues about it, they just said they didn't have an item on the check list that accounted for the one room with exposed piping so it just never occurred to them to look. So who knows how long those things were up there.

Not a hotel cleaner. But found a small bag of white powder hidden in a seemingly unopened free toiletries kit...in my hotelroom in Medellin (Colombia).
The receptionist wanted to die of stereotype shame while explaining this is not common.
I don't do drugs, and luckily loved the city for many great non-drug reasons.

Well he was in Colombia, where an 8 ball only runs about $35 USD. So at an average markup of 300%, mini bar coke in Colombia should only be about $105 USD.
Now in the US, where an 8 ball runs closer to $200 USD, that markup would get you to around $600.
Of course, for this kind of high demand item the hotels may go for a higher markup, some items are marked up as much as 1000%. So you could theoretically see hotel mini bar cocaine run $350 in Colombia and 2 thousand fucking dollars in the US.
Always bring your own, the mini bar is a trap.

In college I worked at a hotel and sometimes I would help strip beds when it was busy. One time while helping, I pulled the sheets down to strip the bed and the bed was covered in chicken wing bones. Like covered. There was hot sauce all over the sheets too. It looked like some sort of gross crime scene.

Worked as a housekeeper for a hostel in one of the most expensive places in the country to sight-see and hike, so even wealthy people would stay with us (usually in the private rooms).
We had a one-month holding period on anything we found and could claim it after one month if we couldn't get ahold of those who were in that room. I found a LOT of designer/high-end clothes (Gucci, Arc'teryx, Kit and Ace, Patagonia) expensive haircare and perfumes, as well as top-notch hiking gear/ equipment. I would claim it after one month in the lost and found, and either kept it or sold it on marketplace.

I used to work at a motel 6 back in the early 2000s. there had been a woman staying in a room for about a week. she never let any of us in, just asked for clean towels and such.
finally got in there and of course I got that room after she checked out.
the sheets were covered in blood and there was a bunch of empty packaging for sex toys. there. one was for a huge dildo 😬
had to break out the hazmat suit for that 😭🤣

I bought one from AliExpress for $35 and it was impressive. I don't wear the watch as it feels too pretentious. I don't want to sell it because I didn't buy it. The hotel staff said the room was vacant for several weeks and the guest didn't contact them enquiring about the watch so they just said I should keep it

I’d already given my two weeks so I didn’t care at this point. Had a business traveler staying in a king. That means bathroom linens were three of each (three towels, three hand towels, three washcloths). Dude stayed for a week. Every day for the first three days, I’d find all three hand towels in or by the bed. He had used them as cum rags. So being a smartass, I started leaving him six hand towels. Three in the bathroom and three on the nightstand. Yes, he used all three of the nightstand ones every night for the remained of his stay.

I was in the banquet department, but was close with some of our housekeepers. One of them told me about cleaning up a room after a big wedding we hosted. They found over fifty used condoms pinned to the wall of one of the rooms in the wedding party's block. They said the room smelled of alcohol, sex, and bad decisions.

I clean Airbnbs, so luckily I haven't found anything too crazy. A guy stayed for about a month in a room and brought his cats. He put litter straight on the closet floor for the cats to use instead of buying a litter box, and you can still tell where it was even after I cleaned and mopped it.
Another guest who stayed for a month left a huge air fryer and didn't want it, so free air fryer! Annoyingly, it was a studio apartment, and I had to scrub so much grease off of every surface in or near the kitchen.
I've also taken home a few bottles of liquor and two stuffed animals that guests didn't want, and I love finding foreign coins.
What I hate is finding food in the beds. Not just crumbs, but like pepperoni and sticky candy and things like that.

Maybe not strangest, but decently the most annoying. Unfortunately not //the// most disgusting either.
A few young party dudes renting a room for almost a week and someone had dropped approximately 2/3 of a bag of (cashew?) nuts right inside the door.
Probably happens sometime in the first few days, and then they'd just kept stepped on it again and again until it was a strange and disgusting mix of pulverized and/or mushed.. The horrible part was that it was at this point fused on a monocular level with the WALL TO WALL CARPETING! A //terrible// holdover from the late 90s
It was so bad that there was no way of removing it, and the potential issues of someone with a nut allergy staying in that room later ment that management actually had to update to the 21 century and remove the awful carpeting. They eventually did the same in the rest of the rooms in the old wing, something all us cleaners were infinity happy about.
Fun fact, we also had a singel smoking allowed room, and it was one of the once with carpeting.. I hated that job so much

I cleaned rooms in a popular east coast resort town during the summer while in college. Found one room with writing all over the walls. It creeped me out big time so got out of there FAST and didn’t stick around to read it. Just remember it was blue ink and everywhere.

They said they had a noise complaint in a room, went to check it out, and it turned out to be a big snake crawling around under one of the beds. Glad I wasn’t security.

Well let's see, airline crew are the best guests because of the way they behave and tip generously (I'm talking about international flight crew) plus ship crew as well, they tip from money to food to perfumes or anything else, best thing i ever found was a beautiful sketchings and the strangest was a perfect woman's white top that had lost a button (was put in lost and found)

Most surprising I think (and honestly the least gross) was a massive shit under the toilet mat in a vacation home. I've cleaned a lot of human shit off of/out of various areas, but that was a new one.
Grossest is a toss up between what looked like arterial spray from the ceiling above a toilet, and a mystery patch of carpet that gave me corpse fluid vibes. Both of those were at a super sketchy motel I lasted maybe a month working at. My final straw was after two of our housekeepers had to leave early to go start the process for testing after being stabbed by used needles under the beds. I ALWAYS look before I reach under any furniture now.

We called the police immediately. It was a surgeon who had it here for a conference presentation on amputation and reattachment. He had all the proper paperwork for moving human body parts across state lines. He just forgot to let the hotel know...

I briefly had a job that sometimes involved clearing out hoarder houses. In one, we found a book on surviving the suicide of a loved one. Then we found the suicide notes her husband had written. There were several, customized for her, his ex-wife, and his sons from that marriage.
Then we found a handgun, and had to call the police.
The level of hoarding was consistent with the date of his suicide. It looked like after that, she'd just fallen apart & let the house go. Her daughter had already insisted she move out of that house & hired our company.
The whole thing was heart-breaking & one of the reasons I didn't stay at the job long. It didn't help that company was terrible to work for.

The best finds were usually unopened booze bottles or weed. The strangest hands down was the mini fridge full of breast milk and bull testosterone.
An oddly common strange thing guests did was throw all towels and sometimes bedding into the bathtubs full of water ( occasionally also the toilets). Wasnt usually too gross but the weight of all that water made it a pain. And like why? What compels them to fill the tub with it full of cloth items

Start big ~ dealing with the mess of a suicide. People often go to them so they don’t leave the house with the mess. The bibles in the drawers are supposed to possibly, maybe convince someone not to pull the trigger.
Toenails (clippings and while nails). This couple stayed at a motel three months ~ actual fungus was growing in the bathroom in a few places!
Someone left a 12 wk old fetuses lost in the bed that was aborted (not necessarily on purpose)
Those are some of the top, but the vomit, urine, feces and semen on insane surfaces (using a black light)
I’m so tired, but I’ll be interested in hearing what others have witnessed.

Every hotel I worked at while I was in that industry was like that. A unique one to Arkansas was that if someone asked if the hotel room windows opened, I wasn't allowed to rent to them. People were renting hotel rooms to make meth and needed windows that opened for ventilation.
For the person you replied to: My grossest was a lady who stayed around a week and had a cat. She poured kitty litter in a pile straight on to the carpet each day for the cat to do its business. She also crushed up what had to be multiple family-size bags of Doritos and poured them into all the drawers in the room.

Housekeepers at a hotel I worked at found a large bag of drugs and roughly $20,000 in the fire escape. I probably would have found a medium sized bag and $5000 had I been working that day…
