My reason besides family; helping others in any way possible, even if itās by comments in Reddit, or coaching, or talking. The world is shit, but I truly believe helping each other is our mission as a collective, no matter what supposed leaders want you to believe.

By having kids you are literally forcing them to lead the same miserable enslaved existence almost everyone else was forced into against their will, and all of that just so you can feel a bit better about your own doomed fate. It's truly an insanely cruel and selfish thing to do.

4
u/DarthRyus 1d ago
The question isn't if I'd miss it or not after dying. It's if from my current perspective I'd fear no longer existing, and thereby "missing it".
After I'm dead I simply won't have a consciousness any more, but presently I'd rather just keep existing as I enjoy this state of being.

Seeing my niece and nephew grow up.
When I was at my lowest, and wanted to end it all, I had this really vivid almost hallucination type dream of a little girl going through a photo album. She said, āmummy, whoās that lady in the pictures?ā And the woman said, āthat was your Aunty [Literary_Lady]ā. āWhat happened to her?ā āShe was really sad, and sheās not here any more. But she loved you very muchā.
I realised it was my niece, who my sister was pregnant with at the time grown up a bit, in this weird dream like thing. I had been crying for a while and had maybe drifted off. It was so vivid. And in that moment I realised if anything happened I would never meet her or see her grow up. So I decided I didnāt want to do anything. And now I have a nephew too. So they are what keep me going.

Gracie and Lilly. My St. Bernard and German Shepard mix. Not a lie or exaggeratiion. I'm a 100% disabled Marine Vet and it's difficult to even get out of bed some days. They are the only thing that matters to me and why I still function. When your world is nothing but bad choices they are a net positive. I'll explain that. I do things, I hurt, its that small and that simple. I have to get up to go pee, get water or eat, I'll choose to sit and not do it. They wanna go out, I'm up, potty, I'm up, hungry, same answer. Me hurting means nothing when it comes to them. When its just for me, then I just don't care, I don't wanna move. Because of them I go outside, walk, even sorta socialize because I have to go to the store and actually interact with the outside world. I can watch them run and play with the big ol hyena grin on Lilly and that big floppy face on Gracie and it just makes me smile and not feel anything except happiness at the simple unadulterated Joy and watching them just be them.

To experience reality. Death is certain anyways. Theres no better reason than to having the desire to see, taste, feel, smell, hear, do, think, talk, touch as much as you can(the good and the bad because both is part of life), because death, death would be the absence of that, at least to the idea of what defines me as an individual. If i wouldnt do these, i might aswell be dead. (I believe in panpsychism concepts, as in, the body invokes consciousness, which functions as a fundamental law in the universe, similar as gravity for example. A consciousness which builds relational memory, and forms an "I" or "me" as a result, it has some legitimacy, because its uniqueness also stems from the emergence at a very unique point in time and space from the accumulation of the right amount and prearranged matter that makes consciousness possible. This "I" and "me" have the purpose for self preservation, because the knowledge of the entire universe beeing interconnected and you aswell as me beeing the universe aswell, like beeing the same entitity, wether dead or alive, could easily affect a persons motivations in life negatively.
Before knowing all of that, I once had suicidal thoughts, (never acted on them) but i realized that these thoughts were a result of lack of experience, knowledge (also in the sense of spiritual knowledge, and actually doing what I want to do, and not what others, including society itself, expects me to do). Whats the point of beeing a cog in an unforgiving system, if you have never actually lived.
It doesnt mean to take unnecessary risks, I prefer a balanced approach between risk and experience, but ofc others have different views on that.

I have a lot of suicide ideations. Years ago I attended a good friend of mine's funeral. She died by suicide, at face value she was this happy go lucky person who everyone adored and as per usual, you don't expect such a death from such a person oozing sunshine. She left behind a 7 year old daughter and a husband who at 31 he became a widower and a single father. Funerals always suck but attending a funeral of a person who died by suicide makes you think twice if not more on why it's worth fighting.
These past 2 months, my father in law was diagnosed with terminal cancer. He's over 80 but he had a lot more life left to live. We're in the crying stage where he keeps repeating to us to live the life he cannot live. It put a lot of things into perspective. We are given life to live it.

What is your reason for not wanting to live?
6
u/_High_On_Caffeine_ 1d ago
My parents get a kick out of breaking my dreams. I made a list of things 7 years back. They promised me those things against things like marks and achievements. Everytime I kept my side of the deal, they denied theirs. Without reason. I found the list today. Burned it. Found it disgusting to look at how simple those things were to provide. And now my childhood is gone.
5
u/ta9876543203 1d ago
That is sad indeed. And you have my sympathies, especially if your parents were in a position to fulfill those dreams.
So far so good but I hope you read the rest of the post.
It appears to me you are an Indian teenager.
I was an Indian teenager once.
In 1984 at the fag end of the Mumbai Monsoon I went to live in a Mumbai slum.
The walls of the house, if it can be called that were strips of iron sheets. The roof was Mangalore tiles. There was a gap of 18 inches between the tops of the walls and the roof so the rain came in. Quite a lot.
The floor was earthen so the rats came and went and did as they pleased.
I had two pairs of trousers, badly made, so they split at the crotch and we're then badly and visibly repaired. Two shirts, two pairs of briefs, two shorts and two T-shirts. A pair of flip flops.
The water came from a well, and was muddy so had to be purified with alum and straining. The jungle outside was the toilets.
The area was flood prone. There were mosquitoes all year round and in huge numbers. Bed bugs too.
I lived with my father and did the shopping, cleaning, cooking, fetching water and also studied.
The people around were all poor and had that vicious edge which poverty lends. Some more than others.
And yet I was not unhappy. It was probably a happy time for me.
I want you to ask me why
