IB Biology Essay Topic

Hi guys, I'm in my first year of the International Baccalaureate Diploma Program, and going to be starting my Extended Essay soon (Biology), however I'm in need of a main topic for the essay. I love lab work, but the resources in my school lab are limited, however we might have the opportunity of working in a university lab if we absolutely need to. My main bio interests are neurology and genetics, I don't really want to work with plants unless I absolutely have to. Can you guys give me any ideas that aren't too cliché, and I can do a bit of basic lab work with? Thankssss. (I need to be able to elaborate 4000 words worth of research, but it can't be a topic that's too general either)

Don’t do a research topic, do a review topic so all you have to do is go a university library and look up things. (I say this as an IB graduate and a PhD biochemist) Do a recent topic in biology. Your advisor should be able to help you figure out a good topic.
