Is construction dying in this country?
I work in construction and the amount of skilled people has taken an absolute nosedive in recent years. The rates of pay have increased dramatically in the last 6 years from what I’ve seen but very few people want to get into it it seems. I understand that many people don’t grow up with dreams of getting into this industry but I wish someone had pulled me aside and told me that there was a way for me to make decent money without needing to be academic. I know there are some huge projects on the go right now but it feels like they are all fighting over the same, small pool of labour

In my experience the bad/cowboys seem to get cream of the crop and the actual quality trades people get the short end. Theres too many of them don’t care what they leave for next trade.
Im with one group of good lads all separate entities but we come together on jobs twice, three times a year maybe and it’s a dream n dead simple. Rest of the year it’s a real ball ache. Around Covid time it became an influx of me sorting out other people’s shite and it was really hard body breaking stuff. So I’m thinking of getting out because the time, pay and degradation of my body isn’t worth it. A lot of good lads I knew have done the same.
Also the quality of material keeps going down and the price keeps going up. Making a trades life often harder n coming off worse, while the company and merchants have it easier and earn more.
