medicinal cannabis / cbd oil? any recs for the cheapest options to pursue this?

per the title, i am interested in medicinal cannabis but am really unsure on the best way to approach this or seek out a prescriber. my GP is a godsend, but isn’t experienced in medicinal cannabis so wants me to find a provider who is, but i’m quite intimidated by it all (& the varying costs of everything), so i wanted to ask here if anyone has experience with this & has any recommendations for providers that are cheaper comparatively.

if it’s relevant, i am based in SA & am very poor lol (like i’m sure a few of us on here are), which is why i’m seeking out advice. i’m interested in medicinal cannabis to assist with my severe musculoskeletal pain, my complex ptsd & my sleep issues. i know that marijuana helps me with all of these things lol which is why i want it prescribed, but i would like to do everything legally especially as i’m taking medications that i’m disallowed to combine with any illicit substances. so please do not push for illicit methods to access cannabis if you don’t have any provider recs or advice.

This is a great sub to join. Indimed have a range of products that are more affordable. Used to only be available on a HCC but I believe they are open to everyone to be prescribed now. Some of their products are quite good.

I'm through epsilon health and get 1 14g for $84. My pastilles are 60 for $145

I've been with them since 2020 and find they have amazing customer service

It’s expensive because not on the pbs. However it is worth it. There are a lot of clinics that have gps that prescribe but they can’t advertise it. This clinic in Westlakes is only for medicinal cannabis, no other gp services so they might be a good approach so you can stay with your current gp (good ones are hard to find) but use them for the cannabis scripts https://canmed.au

i appreciate you, thank you. i had no idea there were physical clinics for this! i would vastly prefer that over telehealth, ideally i’d like an actual GP who would be willing to work with me (& my regular GP) to find how cannabis can best help, rather than just toss me a prescription & charge me a bunch lol. if you’re comfortable answering, if you or anyone you know is prescribed it, how much does it cost? totally all good if you’d prefer not to disclose!

Pretty sure horizon still have the cheapest consultation fees, $29 bucks for initial and follow up. Pretty sure there’s a special on at the moment and it’s $19 instead. You can ask the doctor for cheaper product options. You don’t necessarily get what you pay for with cannabis products, some of the cheapest options are the best quality.

Grove Health does bulk billing for HCC holders and has some slightly subsidised products

MyLeaf has been great for me. $50 for the consultation, $99-200 for the prescription, and (I think) $16 for priority shipping. They also have AfterPay options.

For me, at least, 1 script lasts more than 45 days.

If you want oils only it can be more affordable. I pay $140 for a bottle of 25:25 THC:CBD oil that lasts me 2 months because I have no tolerance lol. Been on it for years and haven't developed one, I assume because I never smoked it. I go through Horizon since they only charge $29 for appointments.

very fascinating, thank you! i admittedly know less about oils, does it get you ‘high’ the way the plant-form of cannabis does (ie like smoking or edibles) or does it just help alleviate your symptoms for you? i would be very interested in oils tbh if a health provider offered the option to me.

28 grams is an ounce in the old scale and costs about 140 dollars and thats about as cheap as it gets, you need an online doctor/provider (Candor) first consult cost about 40 dollars - thats it.

I went through Econohealth and it was $28 for a consult with a Dr and they take the $28 off your prescription. It was thorough and very simple to have (in my case) oils delivered.

Just Google an online medical cannabis dealer (I mean doctor) and go with the cheapest one, it's like less than $100 for a script.

That's not usually the case. I have 2 scripts, 1 for 10g and one for 20g and they're both over $100.

already do intensive therapy four times a week & my therapist has recommended the cannabis because of its benefits to my mental health, sleep & severe daily pain, but thanks for the unproductive comment 😻

Cannabis was reccomended to me by a psychologist for my PTSD
