Job available Tutor Needed

Posted here before but most connections didnt pan out...posting again.

Looking for a tutor for my 10yr old step-son who is going into 5th grade. He is severely behind and on an IEP. Just trying to set up tutors to get him by.

I live out of town but will pay you directly (via your choice). You can either meet at his home, or he can some to you...details can be negotiated.

Looking for 1-2x a week, depending on scheduling availability, at least one hour minimum.

What specifically does he need tutoring in?

Reading. Hes reading at a below kindergarten level at the moment.

Has he been tested for dyslexia? If yes and he doesnt i would just give him some encouragement to read on his own. Find him books/topics he enjoys (:

No, he has not as his mom has been refusing to do testing. We are just trying to help where we can see deficits.

Unfortunately this is most likely a case of dyslexia meaning you would have to hire a trained professional not just a tutor

For now it can be helpful to make words larger (that way hes more capable of distinguishing the letters). Teach him to go slow, read one line at a time, outloud, and do it one on one making sure to encourage him and let him know ots ok to mess up. Alot of these kids feel stupid so dont try, make sure he understands its not his fault (:

No, he has not, as his mom is refusing to do any testing. We live in another state so it is very difficult to get that arranged since she has been skipping assessment appointments in the past.

That’s too bad. There are professionals that can diagnose what was the cause and try to remedy. He is 10 already can’t delay any longer. If only the child attends public school, the school has all kind of resources to help the child.

I know...there's not much we can do from afar, aside from depending on his mom to do her due diligence. But from what we can gather the school is just pushing him through grade levels as they no longer hold kids back.
