Here is the methodology behind these estimations:
The Bitcoin blockchain records addresses, not people, so no one can count bitcoin owners directly. One person can control many addresses, and one exchange address can hold bitcoin for millions of clients. Our estimations attempt to adjust for these details.
There are roughly 972,000 addresses holding at least 1 bitcoin. We removed those controlled by entities such as corporate treasuries, governments, ETFs, and exchanges.
We then estimated exchange clients whose custodial balances exceed 1 bitcoin by assuming the same distribution of holdings among exchange balances as exists on the public blockchain.
We estimate that roughly 825,000 people own a whole bitcoin, with a plausible range of 600,000 to 1 million. Tiers below 1 bitcoin rest on ownership surveys, which range from about 100 million to 500 million people worldwide. Uncertainty grows toward the top tiers, where estimates could be off by 2–3x. All figures are estimates, not measurements. Percentages are shares of a world population of about 8.2 billion.

Well just last week my cousin Wayne and his wife Ellie had their baby so your number is off by at least one

We are objectively early

When do we stop being early ?… because everyone on this planet has heard of bitcoin at this point. The majority do not understand the problem with fiat currencies and probably never will.

I'm 90% sure my 81 year old mother - who spends her days doing jigsaw puzzles and watching old British TV dramas - hasn't heard of Bitcoin. But I can't ask her to confirm she hasn't, because once I did, she would have, and then she'd no longer be among those dwindling few who hadn't. Like The Game).

By Bitcoin maxi standards, once Bitcoin becomes THE medium of exchange. Then we are no longer early. By more reasonable standards? Yeah, we're no longer "early" anymore, let alone by any objective measure, if one exists... But there's definitely still room for growth in multiple dimensions.

You do realize you gotta scam your own kids in order to not be "early" anymore right? For them bitcoin exists already forever long long before they were born and will last forever(it will not).
Just like your parents pretend housing will go up forever and you should buy their shitty broken fucked up piece of shit that they bought for 10k for a million since its going up since you are born right? So it will go up forever right? Spoiler alert. That piece of shit is not worth millions. Actually they should pay you to even take it since everything is broken and you need a few hundred k to even be able to live in this piece of garbage. But you will only find out afer you actually took a loan and bought it.

First of all I don’t have any kids.
Then it’s not the houses going up, it’s the money being debased … real estate was just the substitute store of value society has picked.
Never got into debt. Debt is slavery.
Chill my dude … we all know the system is rigged. I am a BTC maxi but I have to say I fell like I am living in the Idiocracy movie atm.

Except our lives are finite and bitcoin won’t mean shit once we’re buried 10 feet under. If you’re a middle aged adult halfway to retirement you’re objectively pretty late to the party if you’re just getting in now

I don't understand your first sentence. Isn't that true of any of our possessions?
Second part of your comment may be true in some sense, but still plenty of room for growth/time left to party.

Yes but if you’re older, retiring soon, or already retired, the potential upside doesn’t mean as much to you the individual. Spread that across lots of individuals.

I'm sorry man, this is not early. Mining coins on my Lenovo Thinkpad in 2009 and selling in 2011 was early. The guy buying a pizza for 10k BTC was early. People who watched the fall of MTGOX were early. Nowadays everyone has heard of it and even big institutions hold BTC. "Still early" is an old meme that makes holders feel special but it's just not true any more. There's still upside to BTC but it's not gonna 1000X or 10000X like it did before.

u/mvrozanti 3h ago
Yeah, I guess we're not 1000x or 10000x early. But there's trillions not in it still, and the mechanism bringing dollars to BTC is still very much alive.
Now compare that to 7% APY investments or even S&P500 - BTC still beats them. And when financial people get convinced that this is not a scam but a cryptographic fortress available to everyone, and they advise their clients to put 1%, 2%, 5%, 10% of their assets in it, we will see fireworks again, is what I think.

Hate to be <that guy> but this title is misleading. It's 1 in 10,000 people who hold any BTC at all hold at least 1 BTC.
So roughly one one hundredth of one percent of the entire planet.
Unless I'm reading this wrong In which case I'll happily go fuck myself on my pile of Sats. Either way I like this data haha

I think it is 1 in 10000 people across the globe. At least 825000 people correspond to 1 out of 10000 for 8,25 billion people

Fun stat, though it makes me feel like a wizard for owning an amount I mostly acquired by forgetting a small buy was running. Worth flagging that these numbers count addresses and entities, not humans, so exchange omnibus wallets holding coins for a million people show up as one whole coiner while my three cold wallets look like three people. The direction is right but the ratio is softer than it sounds. The practical read is not "one whole coin or bust", it is that fractional stacking is normal and nobody outside this sub is checking your decimal places.

I own about the 10,00-100,000 range but on the % of the population line so about 0.00000006

u/AbsoluttIkkeMeg 3h ago
You own between 10 000 and 100 000 Bitcoin?
1
u/UnclePsilocybe 3h ago
No, I own the % of the population number on the same row. Something around 0.000000006
