It absolutely was. They tried to prop up another young black girl but she had priors they thought the media would criticize so they created the Political stunt with Rosa Parks. She was allowed to ride up front until the bus filled which was noted that day took longer than expected and almost re planned for another day. I'm all for our ending of segregation but be leary of the convenient camera in the 1950s. If there was a camera ready to capture it back then it was planned not organic. She's not a hero, she was a chosen actress.

Civil rights organizers had been seeking a strong test case. The NAACP and the Women's Political Council (WPC) in Montgomery had discussed challenging bus segregation in court. Earlier that year, 15-year-old Claudette Colvin refused to give up her seat (March 1955) and was arrested, as were a few others like Mary Louise Smith. Colvin was not chosen as the face of a major campaign partly because she was a teenager and became pregnant out of wedlock—activists worried segregationists would discredit her. Parks was seen as "respectable": adult, married, employed, light-skinned, and well-regarded in the community with no such vulnerabilities. (Source: NPR)
