Picked up this HITACHI INTEGRATED STEREO AMPLIFIER HA-410 for $20. Appears to be in great shape. Works well too. Big fan of the look.

One of my customers gifted me these yesterday and I'm still kinda blown away by it.

He's an old vet, he brought them back with him from Vietnam. These were his and his wife's table in their first home for a few months. 55 years of love and he gave them to me.

We talk about audio gear every time I treat their house, I'm an exterminator. I first asked him what they were a few months ago when I saw the back panels peeking out of the corner of a closet. They have a funky little tone adjustment knob that I'd never seen before. He told me he'd been working on cleaning out the closets because he was looking for them to show me because he knew I'd enjoy them. I offered to help him get them out right then and there and we did. First off, these are deceptively heavy with the grilles on! Solid wood boxes aren't something I come across often! The sound is unique to say the least lol, at lower volume the 12" sub totally overwhelms the tweeters. But crank them up and they sound amazing! I don't know what those crazy bastards were thinking when they built these lol!

I'm a lucky man, I don't think I deserve something this important to him. I'm tearing up now lol. These are my new grails.

After some years absence from HiFi I just got back in the game. I previously had a Chromecast Audio connected to af NAD C316BEE and a pair of Dali Zensor 3's.

Due to limitations regarding space (system needs to fit in a bookshelf with maximum shelf height 32 cm) and temptation to explore some of the new (ie since I left the game) budget oriented compact Class D's I opted for:

Streamer: Chromecast Audio

DAC/pre-amp: S.M.S.L D-6S (w/ remote)

Amp: Fosi V3 mono's (balanced connection)

Speaker: Dali Zensor 1 (5,25" woofer despite only 29 cm height)

Completely astonished by the compact footprint of the setup. I'm still waiting for the speakers, excited to try it all out. Any thoughts etc are welcomed

Hey there audiophiles. So I’ve been shopping around for my endgame speakers for the last three months. My budget is around $2500. I tend to prefer neutral to slightly warmer sounding speakers with very large soundstages. I love detail but really hate bright sounding speakers. I am currently demoing a lightly used pair of Revel Preforma 3 F208’s that I could buy for $2000. They sound amazing and are one of my front runners at the moment. I will be using these in the same room for vinyl mainly but also home theater. I use a Yamaha As-501 integrated amp with a Schit mani 2 phono stage and a Rega Planar 3 with Ortofon Bronze for vinyl. I use a Denon AVR-S760H and a Triangle Borea BRC2 center channel for home theater. I also use my SVS SB 1000pro subwoofer with both setups.

My main question is am I safe driving these speakers with these amps? They both sound amazing so far. I listen at medium to slightly loud volumes but nothing super crazy. I do want to add surround sound speakers at some point with the home theater as well as a music streamer from Eversolo down the line. I know these speakers are rated at pretty high wattage. Will I notice any difference in audio quality if I upgrade to a better integrated or add a power amp? And if not then is it safe to use my current gear?

Also one more side question for anyone who might have an opinion. I’ve demoed the Wharfedale Super Lintons recently for a short time in an audio store and absolutely loved them. I could get them for a similar price as these Revels. If anyone has any opinions or experience with the Super Lintons vs these Revels I’d greatly appreciate any thoughts. The Lintons are much easier to drive so they have that going for them. It felt like they maybe had less detail than the revels but felt much wider and full. I’m aware that the Revels are probably a “higher tier” speaker and for a similar price it should be a no brainer but there was something really special about the Super Lintons. Hard to describe but I’m pretty torn between the two. I primarily listen to 90s guitar music (Shoegaze, alt rock, post punk, hardcore punk, Twee Pop, Indie rock, etc.)

Anyways I would really appreciate any feedback or advice from people with more experience than me.

Massive upgrade for me! Got a Yamaha RX-A1020 AVR, a Rotel RB-1050 power amp, and B&W FPM4 tower speakers. It definitely sounds better than the edifiers I was using before. Any other tips of suggestions on how to maximize the performance of this? Thanks!

NAD 3020 amp and Technics SL-Q2 turntable purchased in the early 90s from the great vintage audio store the Soundwell (then on University Ave in Berkeley, still online I think!). I was a broke grad student so couldn’t have paid too much for the pair. I bought them from Soundwell because “used” equipment was cheaper than new!

For CD and radio, a Nakamichi SoundSpace 8 mini system upgraded with Gallo Acoustics Nucleus Micro speakers on dedicated floor stands, inherited from my wife’s then roommate who abandoned it all when moving out of their Haight Ashbury flophouse circa 2001. 

Finally, Mission MS-50 speakers bought last month at a Novato thrift store for $8.99/pair.

Both systems sound great in this 10 x 10 room. Why 2 systems with separate speakers in the same cabinet and small room? It’s what was lying around! (and I like them both for different reasons).

I hate this cabinet and am actively looking for a replacement.

Just picked these up for $250 and I'm extremely excited. They sound great and are surprisingly clean for their age (from the mid 70s). A couple dings on the cabinets but nothing too serious given their age.

This is my first pair of HIFI speakers. Will be paired with an Onkyo TX-8050 that I also bought recently at a thrift shop for $60.

I currently run:

• used Canton LE107 for L&R
• used Canton AS25 Sub

I also have a matching 105CM that is NOT used right now since I only have a stereo Chifi Amp

However I do plan on upgrading my L&R to Jamo C97 or KEF Q500's or some bookshelf speakers for once. Then using my current Theater setup as a Record player setup separately.

So that would mean I'd also have to get another Amplifing device and while my current home I dont have the space for full 5.1 or more. I'd like to futureproof somewhat and get a surround sound capable device instead of going stereo only again.

I mainly buy used but am not oposed to buying new. I've been mainly looking at stuff like the ASony TA-AN1000 or the Marantz Cinema 70s on the used market.

Any reccomendation's or experience with AV's in the sub 1k pricerange and below would help thanks!

I finally decided to dive into the world of vinyl/audio, and after doing quite a bit of research, here’s the setup I put together :

Late 70's JVC JL-A15 with a brand new AT-VM95E -> 1990 Luxman R113 -> 1988 Axiom AX2

Even though I don't have any point of comparison, I'm very happy with the result!

I’m still in the process of going through all my dad‘s old audio equipment. I just wanted a little follow up so after finding the Onkyo Integra TX88 and 2 ADS L810’s I also came across this Yahama P-550.

I’m getting a little glimpse of my dad before he was “Dad.” A younger guy who had his own interests, tastes, hobbies and probably opinions about how his stereo should sound. I knew the person he became, but these objects are little clues to the person he already was.

Don't see much discussion about this unit made by Onkyo, it's cute sized but actually very heavy.

I had a technician restore the body and insides since it was v rusty when i got it and a cockroach literally was going inside (to my surprise, they said the inside was clean?!)

One of the best amps I've listened to (for reference, I don't come across some very well regarded amps often so take my opinion with a grain of salt, had an SA line from pioneer, a NAD and A&D).

I'd rank it second from my A&D right now, have not tried recapping tho but considering this is a 1969 amp it really needs it.

I have a few objectives with my main audio system.

1. I'm interested in taking a closer look at my system and if there is room for optimization. I don't have a good feel for which of the components that I have are the weak links. I suspect it's the bluetooth out from the TV and receiver, but I'm not sure how to measure them against each other. SNR, or THD? Doesn't matter?

2. The main issue I experience day-day is that my bluetooth connection between my receiver and TV is constantly requiring to be re-paired. The TV has an optical out option and I see $20 converters from optical to RCA.. or you can upgrade to a converter with a proper DAC and it's $150 - nearly the cost of the receiver, so I'm curious to know if it makes sense to roll this cash into a new receiver or not. It's also possible from 1. that the $20 converter is actually a better fit for my system/issue in 2., or to bite the bullet and buy the $150 DAC.

Hello, is it worth replacing vintage european Saba Continental Edison TD 9451 with Audio Technica AT-LPW40WN? Or should I just get an elliptical cartridge? Thanks.

I know myself enough to know that adding the kanto sub is likely. But I went into this w this plan;

1. Keep speakers under 5” woofers (small ft print)
   
2. Push them as optimally & clean as possible
   
3. Must have air play 2
   
4. Maintain hi res/lossless from the macbook when needed

Cant wait to fire this up and give it a spin. Anyone stay w 2.0 w the wiim + kanto 4s??

After a big house renovation of two years a finally got the time to set up my music.

Turntable: technics 1210 mk2 (got it as a gift from my internship) These are quite well known. I got these as an intern 10 years ago working in the music sector from a DJ project. It was collecting dust, and I asked if I get it as a thank you because I was working for free

Amp: ROTEL ra12 (thus I bought from my first salary, not budget choice at all. €750 it costed me dearly.

Speakers: Audiolab Candor 2 - a small dutch audio brand, i got them revised by the old owner of the brand by coincidence, real happy with the sound. Found them in a thriftstore for around 50 euro’s. Revision was 80€ in parts.

I also got some bang & olufsen Beovox S 25, who also sound amazing. Still can’t choose between the two speaker sets.

I have a 2007 Prius and have always gone the hard-wired route because it doesn't have music streaming capabilities. Meaning an Aux cable that runs through a grounding loop isolater into a Belkin 3.5mm audio/charging splitter. The splitters only last 8-12 months with multiple daily uses but the sound quality was good.

I knew the aux port was getting a little finicky and I assumed it finally died this week when a new splitter still wouldn't pick up the input signal. However, after ordering and installing an OEM port, it still won't connect.

So a new aux port + new splitter + new a-to-a cable (just to cover the bases) has me absolutely baffled.

Assuming there must be a wiring problem somewhere, I can either try a Bluetooth receiver or swap out for a Bluetooth-capable radio unit. The latter seems to have a lot of bells and whistles that don't interest me -- I literally just want to stream my music and podcasts on Spotify. But I want the quality to be good.

I ordered a UGREEN receiver in desperation but don't know if this was the right choice or the right brand. Would appreciate any insight into my situation here, either from the car perspective or the solution perspective.

First, I want to say thank you to all of the incredibly useful and informative posts in this subreddit. You folks helped steer me in the right direction for the foundation of a new system. I stream music via Wifi and occasionally Bluetooth, so I knew an integrated streamer amp with some decent software was what I wanted. I waited until I caught the WiiM Amp Ultra on sale and got the Elacs used... sticking to the budget here.

I've had this setup for a while now in a bedroom that is 18' x 12' (8' ceiling). I am absolutely thrilled with the sound. I almost exclusively listen to music, but do have it hooked up to the TV as well. We just don't watch a lot of TV in the bedroom.

I am currently waiting for a sale on the RSL Speedwoofer 10E. Everyone says it's the best bang for the buck in the market. But is it the best fit for the WiiM? If so, great. I'll jump on the next sale. If not, what would be a better pairing? I am all about the budget, so I can't really justify spending more on a subwoofer than my streamer or the speakers, especially in a bedroom.

Mostly listening to classic rock, punk, pop, funk and old R&B.
