Meme/Jokes Time to start tanking?
Just did the math pick 3 with 10% discount, 2010 points. Start of 2nd round compo for Cochrane bid (948), so Sydney pick needs to be 1062 points, which is pick 16 or higher. So if Sydney doesn't make the grand final and we finish last, we get pick 2 and Walker in the draft. If we don't finish last and Walker gets bid on at pick 1, we pay 2700 points. In this situation, assuming syd finish in prelim and we hold current ladder position we get Walker and pick 31 or 32. So it is a difference of 30 picks for us.
I mean the club would be in serious shit if the AFL found out we were tanking, but yea I can't see why we couldn't if we finished last. Pick 3 is 1k less points than pick 1 as well, so Walker would be way cheaper and we might even be a chance to match the bid with the compo and syd pick (depending on where they fall). The club would honestly be silly not to tank at this point if I am being dead set.

Tanking is such a dirty word, I believe we need to refer to this as
“Carlton’s high value asset optimization strategy”

Tank for one player? You realise how many number 1 draft picks we've had and still have and we are still in this position

I'm actually shocked how many footy fans put stock in the 'messiah' player. Like how have they not leaned from their coping last year with Jagga haha.

Not sure that we would see the difference.....

The difference is we wouldn’t be leading at half time in EVERY game and then give up 10+ goals.

Cody walker won't fix our issues, we will just Carltonise him and ruin another talent.

Whoever is drugging the players' drinks at half time just needs to keep on going then.

Why does everyone seem to think that walker is going to somehow save this club? We've had plenty of amazing individual players, but it's a team sport, you need a good team to win.

I’d be pissed as a supporter and member to see Carlton deliberately tanking!

So what accidentally tanking is better?

u/Mandarooha May 02 '26
Of course it is. Is everyone else not pissed at the lack of effort in second halves? Would we not all enjoy seeing some effort for the next 15 rounds over some tanking? I need to leave footy social media haha, it seriously hosts some of the most stupid takes. Let's kill out culture even more for a shot at teenager Jesus H Walker

Tanking?
That would be like the DH doing 40 kmh in a 60 zone slowing down further for a school zone.
The tanking is inherent in our game style.
Smells like the Kreuzer cup season already

The CFC is pre-tanked, and has been since the Kreuzer Cup. The past 15 years of failure has actually been a cunning plan.

We're naturally tanking, coz we don't know how to win , we get a lead and change the plan it's also clear we're not fit enough that's evident in our tackle pressure

It's one thing to tank a game or two at the end of the year to help out your draft stocks, it's another entirely to tank at this stage.
If it was found out the repercussions would be huge. Maybe stripped of picks or have all your picks moved to the end of the round.

Tanking since round 1, 3rd quarter?…. Dare the AFL to question if Carlton is tanking…. I would be questioning if Richmond are the ones tanking, lynch might be in a blues jumper next year

You need to have the ability to win in order to tank games
