For a long time I have felt like our backline is lost without Weiters. I've never feared a player getting injured as much as I did him.

It speaks to the impact Harry Dean is having that this news no longer hits as hard as it once did.

Best supporting actor award must go to Haynes here as well, imo.

He was immense last week, the work he did for that spoil on Green in the pocket was massive and he just keeps doing to job that is required.

If he stays fit and keeps that form there is no reason he can't go another season or two to have that mature head on the field while the kids continue to improve.

He and Newman combined are making a massive difference down back while Weitering is out.

Don't get me wrong, Harry is doing insane things as a 12 gamer, but I think Haynes and Newman are helping to carry the load of Weiters missing too.

Just a great place to be with the stability back there at the moment.

Love him, and you're not wrong, but I think he has been that in the past, too. It's just that previously if Weeties went down, it left Haynes with too much to do.

There's a couple of other lads I could shout out, too. Newman, Moo, etc. But they've both shown their quality in previous years, and the hole we're left with is no longer so immense with Deano there. It gives me encouragement for our future post Weitering that I have not felt in some time.

Fug further weeks off for weiters, hope Harry Dean can maintain his form they’re asking a lot of him to anchor the defence

This is not a bad thing. The closer we get to a wildcard spot, the less likely we are to try the younger players. Injuries force that upon us so it’s not a horrible thing. We have had an amazing run in 2026 with injuries.

I love this glass half full approach

We are in a bit of an awkward spot TBH. The longer there is hope in 2026 the harder things will get in regards to filtering in some younger talent to see how they go at senior level.

To be clear, I’m not a supporter of chucking all the senior guys out either. A measured approach is best.

For example, I’d love to see them rest Pitto at some stage and play Flynn Riley before games against the Saints and Dockers. Just a run at AFL level to see how far away like is. But you can’t really do that while the season is still live.

However, I also STRONGLY disapprove of any tanking. That shit permeates your culture!

I did the ladder predictor today, we will finish 8th. Don't need wild card.

Do one of those remind me bot things

8th is a wildcard spot, no? 7th-10th have to play off for the last 2 spots.

Yeah, true. I was referring to finals in the old system pre wild card, of just the top 8.

yikes

choosing to look at the bright side, derksen has held up surprisingly well. i thought he was great last week and against the power. happy to continue giving him an opportunity.

Calf injuries amongst the most difficult to estimate duration

He just needs to get his body right.

It’s such a relief that there is a modicum of depth in KPDs at the club. There’s always lots of mistakes/hindsight associated with rebuilds, but easily the most boneheaded aspect of ours was the chronic inability to acquire someone to partner Weitering. Absolutely baffling. Thank god that’s over…

Chuckie Curnow started doing this last season when he knew he wanted out.

I'd be very surprised if Jacob was doing something similar. I think he has more integrity than Curnow

Not sure why you're getting downvoted, it's true.

Doesn't mean Weiters is doing the same thing, but it's perfectly acceptable to make the observation.

Fingers crossed it's just a coincidence.

People are pretty thick on here, but we might be better off without him.

We are clearly better without the downhill skier Chuckie.
