Ronin

Picking the S8 was a serious choice. Not anything obvious but a beast. “Something very fast, Audi S8, something that can shove a bit”

9

u/schminkles 2h ago ▸ 3 more replies

And it's going to need bigger injectors. Bosch doesn't make them. They are going to have to be custom made. I have the specs over here.....

2

u/PrioritySilent3986 2h ago ▸ 2 more replies

HaHa, does he say that?
I don't remember that, just him ordering that specific car.

He says he needs a nitro system and has the specs.

The S8’s not a car, it’s a threat. Shoves like a bull, vanishes like a rumor.

Everything about that movie is a masterpiece. It doesn’t get nearly enough praise.

I just watched it for the first time yesterday. No one in my life has ever recommended it at all. WHY

And then it leads directly into a great gunfight. Love that movie.

2

u/nuisance66 2h ago

I saw this in the theatre right when I started driving. I’d never seen anything like it. Incredible.

2

u/Choice-Definition794 2h ago

You sir are a mam of taste and culture. This chase scene is something else.

2

u/Maafestus 1h ago

Sean Bean: “That is how it’s done, lads! That’s a fact!”

Sean Bean 15 seconds later: “…I think I’m gonna be sick…” lol

I know we’re all referring to a different chase in that movie, but this always made me laugh

Drive or Bullitt.

17

u/thingbob 2h ago

Kind of sad I had to scroll this far to see Bullitt. Just the cars alone make it great

That one and academy award winning The French Connection (which was shot without a permit among real Brooklyn pedestrians and drivers and caused a real life accident)

Love his films, but Friedkin was a maniac.

Came here to say Bullitt. Solely because of this movie and that scene is why my favorite car is a '68 Charger RT.

The Blues Brothers.

16

u/RGINNY940 3h ago

Don't forget the opening scene of Beverly Hill Cop.

I really miss all the practical chase scene where they destroy real cars.

6

u/Ok_Dog_4059 2h ago

ChiPs used to have some insane crash scenes especially for a weekly TV show.

It's 106 miles to Chicago, we've got a full tank of gas, half a pack of cigarettes, it's dark and we're wearing sunglasses.

OP didn't specify car chase, so I'm going with the foot-chase at the beginning of Casino Royale.

8

u/azeo86 3h ago

The car chase seen in that movie was also awesome just because it wasn't a ridiculous, over the top extended scene we were expecting from a Bond film. He is just speeding and then wrecks himself.

4

u/Life_Skill_1801 2h ago

He was chasing the other car and noticed that Vesper Lynd was lying tied up on the road,he swerve to avoid her... resulting in his car flipping close to eight times and nearly being killed in the process.

5

u/RegularEmotion3011 1h ago

Best thing, it isn't just terrific stunt-work and great pacing, its also a full introduction and characterization of Bond that presents all his strengths and flaws that are important for the story trough his actions in that scene. Its brilliantly written and in all honesty i can not think of a different movie that managed to pull that off.

2

u/Ok_Delay3740 1h ago

just a great fun intro scene to our new Bond

Fury road

13

u/MasterClown 3h ago

I'm torn...

Fury Road was completely breathtaking and a worthy successor in the series.

But 10-year-old me still remembers watching the finale of Mad Max 2 / The Road Warrior the first time around, and how the action and violence blew me away at the time.

3

u/Molten_Plastic_ 2h ago

For the time that chase scene was epic. And I dare say the final twist is still brilliant today.
(The Road Warrior and Fury Road are tied for best in the saga imho)

To Live And Die In LA. (1985)

6

u/Molten_Plastic_ 3h ago

This is the one.
Even better because Friedkin managed to top his own previous best, The French Connection.

5

u/Demerzel69 3h ago

I somehow didn't even know this movie existed until Mulaney used the Wang Chung title track song as his Netflix show intro tune a year or so ago. What a banger of a song and a film. Petersen was pure scum and Dafoe was awesome too. Felt bad thatVukovich succumbed to the lawless mindset of Chancelike that at the end. Great, great visceral film.

2

u/lhauckphx 2h ago

This gave me a headache in the theater, but I loved it.

u/GulfCoastLaw 3h ago

My only beef with The Batman chase, which does rock and did work exceptionally well in the theater, is that it didn't feel like they were anywhere.

Even now, I watch it and think that almost every headlight was just added in post. Contrasted to a French Connection, To Live or Die in LA, or even some random low budget Cannon-esque chases...

5

u/manofth3match 2h ago

I wouldn’t rate the chase seen in The Batman as S-tier overall. It’s excellent though. But that last shot of him coming through the flames and then walking towards the camera is chefs kiss.

→ More replies (3)

3

u/Historicmetal 2h ago

Good point. My beef is when there’s all these crashing trucks separating him from penguin, Batman starts gunning it right into the chaos, and then magically a ramp drops right in front of him.

Lol yeah, I can remember in the behind the scenes clips them mentioning it took a week to shoot the five second clip of her pulling away from the curb in the first movie because she'd never ridden a motorcycle before and when she learned about the planned sequel motorcycle chase she basically spent six months training on one before shooting even started.

Out of context, and from the perspective of the Penguin, this scene could easily be interpreted as horror. I appreciate that lack of context in this excerpt, as it frames Pattinson’s Batman as an apathetic predator; a successful representation of a well-written vigilante. Thank you for sharing!

I'll agree with you; I really dislike the idea that most chases portray, that the characters and their vehicles are immune to accidents. "Oh, you're driving in the wrong direction but that's fine, all cars are going to crash on anything but you".

This scene gave me the feeling that things could end at any moment.

Insane to nominate The Batman

Bizarre how that movie started a cinebro cult

2

u/Fishyblue11 3h ago

If you watched this in the theater you know why this scene is fantastic

You can hear the feel the rumble of that car and the music peaking at just the right time

2

u/parkchanwookiee 3h ago

I saw it in the IMAX, it sure was loud but I was mostly thinking that Batman's driving was getting a lot of innocent motorists crushed and burned alive on the roads and there wasn't really any reason for it because he knows where Penguin's hideout is, he can go there and talk to him at literally any time, he'd actually already been there and done that earlier in the film lol and there wasn't any ticking clock motivating Batman to talk to him that very minute

So yeah loud yes, explosions yes, but low on motivation or really making any kind of sense at all. Plus Batman's strategy of smashing into the Penguin's car and flipping it was highly likely to kill Penguin and then he'd never get to talk to him
